The Chippewas of the Thames First Nation Board of Education is currently accepting applications for a new team member for the position of:
Anishinaabemowin Language Teacher

BACKGROUND:
We are the Anishinaabeg of Deshkan Ziibiing, also known as Chippewas of the Thames First Nation. We call ourselves Anishinabek, which means the original people. We are known as the Ojibway, a Nation of the Algonquin language family who originally migrated to the Great Lakes area from the north-eastern region of North America. Our political alliances are with the Odawa (Ottawa) and Bodaywadami (Pottawatomi), who form the Three Fires Confederacy. We have a modern air-conditioned school with a full-sized double-gym, outdoor track, a full cafeteria and a new library. Class sizes are small and well stocked with current resources, a SmartBoard and ample access to current technology.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• An Ontario Teacher’s Certificate would be an asset, but not required
• Provide students with access to an intensive Anishinaabemowin language learning environment
• Must have general knowledge of the educational system, learning techniques, attitudes, values, aspirations and expectations of Chippewas of the Thames First Nation Board of Education
• Bring a creative, innovative, and positive approach to teaching
• Excellent classroom management, organization and planning skills
• Ability to communicate with parents, students, and co-workers in a respectful and supportive manner
• Works with a high standard of integrity
• Excellent oral, written, communication, facilitation and presentation skills
• Must demonstrate the ability to speak and write in Anishinaabemowin
DUTIES:
Under the general supervision of the Principal, the Anishinaabemowin Language Teacher will perform the duties as per job description, some listed below:
• Develop a yearly plan for activities and skills to be taught in the Language
• Work with the Board and appointed Elders in the development of language curriculum
• Co-ordinate with the teachers, the integration of the curriculum for use in the Language
• Develop all materials as required for classroom use
• Help with the integrate of the language throughout the school
• Develop lesson plans and classroom exercises
SALARY:
Dependent on qualifications and experience
