Hours: Part-time; up to 35 hours/week (5 days)
Pension: HOOPP (defined benefit plan) – optional

Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC) is a diverse, multiservice Indigenous health and wellness agency, who has extended its services in the field of early learning and child care. Guided and supported by the Journey Together Indigenous planning committee. SOAHAC are the operators and licensee of Nshwaasnangong.

The Child Care at Nshwaasnangong offers licensed child care for up to 88 children ages 0-6 years of age old. The adjoining Family Centre is a place to connect with opportunities offered for young children, families and youth-including ceremonies, land-based learning, knowledge exchange and community supports. Nshwaasnangong is located at 449 Hill Street in London, Ontario.

Position Summary
The Child Transport Driver will be responsible for transporting children to and from their homes to Nshwaasnangong Child Care & Family Centre, driving one of Nshwaasnangong’s vans. Reporting to Nshwaasnangong’s Senior Manager, you are a friendly, community minded person that enjoys helping others and spending time behind the wheel. You will be scheduled to pick up children and/or families to take them to Nshwaasnangong for either the licensed child care program or to attend programming offered at the EarlyON/Family Centre, and will help to make Nshwaasnangong more accessible to families facing transportation barriers.

Roles and Responsibilities:
• Travel within the City of London
• Drive safely at all times
• Obey all traffic rules and laws
• Ensure that children are seated and buckled into car seats properly
• Receive schedule details from the site by email and phone
• Transport children to and from Nshwaasnangong as per the schedule outlined
• Inform Senior Manager of any changes to ability to drive children and families
• Inform the site immediately of any concerns or special needs of a child or family
• Ensure confidentiality in all interactions with families and Nshwaasnangong staff
• Keep the assigned vehicle clean, inside and out
• Record mileage and submit completed record forms
• Immediately report incidents, accidents or concerns to the Senior Manage
• Must be available between the hours of 7am-6pm, Monday through Friday (shifts will be 3-5 hours)

Qualifications:
• Valid Ontario Driver’s “G” license; a clean driver’s abstract, as well as proof of personal auto insurance (must be insured a minimum of 3 years and in good standing).
• Clean and current vulnerable sector police check as a condition of employment
• Updated immunizations, including proof of COVID-19 vaccination (2 doses minimum) as a condition of employment
• Excellent driving skills, always prioritizing safety
• Experience working with children
• Able to relate to people: patient and empathetic with good listening and communication skills
• Punctual and dependable in picking up children/families at the scheduled time
• Attend/ complete required training as required

COVID-19 considerations: Driver must adhere to COVID 19 protocols at all times. All drivers and clients are required to wear masks in vehicles. Hand sanitizer will be available in vehicles. Drivers are responsible for sanitizing vehicles after each client.

This job may require additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre.
