Position Title: Child & Youth Services Supervisor

Purpose of the Position
The Child & Youth Services Supervisor is responsible for delivering and monitoring Child & Youth programs and services and ensuring the execution of high-quality services in alignment with the policies and procedures established by the First Nation Council. The Child & Youth Services Supervisor provides supervision to direct reports, including admin assistant(s), communicative disorders assistant(s), therapy assistant(s), and program worker(s). The Supervisor is responsible for supporting children and youth to maximize opportunities and strengths while addressing their individualized needs.
Responsibilities
- Deliver and execute high-quality Child & Youth programs and services in alignment with Child & Family Services program plans
- Supervise and support in the implementation of program plans and overall program performance, providing recommendations on initiatives and improvements as needed
- Under the guidance of the Manager of Child & Family Services, ensure Indigenous culture and concepts are integrated into service delivery
- Ensure ongoing compliance with relevant regulations and best practices in Child & Youth service and program delivery
- Assist the Manager of Child & Family Services with the development of new programs and proposals, providing insight on needs specific to your program area
- Liaise with service providers, relevant agencies, and other programs as appropriate
- Develop and monitor family-centered coordinated service plans for clients, including screening/assessments, referrals (to other AFN programs or external providers), and provision of services and information
- Provide therapy support including building connections, scheduling clinic days with relevant service providers, intake and follow-up
- Assist clients through advocacy and tactical support including appointment scheduling, arranging transportation, and applications
- Plan and organize events in collaboration with Child & Family Services team and with Manager approval
- Promote a positive image of Child & Youth services and increase awareness in the community and with clients
- Provide supervision to Child & Youth Services direct reports
- Supervise and ensure outside consultants and providers are providing culturally safe and accessible services within Aamjiwnaang First Nation
- Supervise and support direct reports to ensure and foster wellbeing in a cooperative working environment in accordance with policies, procedures, and systems in placeEnsure staff conduct themselves in a professional manner in dealing with Aamjiwnaang Band members, staff, and the public
- Train and guide new team members on programs and services offered
- Coordinate all aspects of scheduling, including time off requests and ensuring adequate staffing coverage and caseload coverage
- Work closely with department manager to hire, promote, discipline, or terminate direct reports
- Oversee new hires and onboarding process
- Ensure staff compliance with all relevant policies and procedures
- Coordinate and host monthly team meetings
- Ensure effective utilization of program funding and resources, providing recommendations to department manager as needed
- Monitor and report on budget and resources as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of First Nations Child & Youth Services initiatives / services and how that impacts clients and the AFN community
- Knowledge of First Nations bylaws, politics and specific issues related to Child & Youth Services
- Knowledge of and ability to apply core First Nations values to deliver culturally appropriate services
- Able to support the vision, purpose, and values of AFN
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and policies
- Knowledge of the profession and ability to apply that knowledge to the Program
- Effective supervisory, mentoring and delegation skills
- Proficient skill with ability to train on all associated software, programs, etc.
- Able to communicate effectively using oral, written, visual and non-verbal communication skills
- Well-developed interpersonal skills; strong interest in children and youth and the provision of child and youth services
- Able to navigate difficult, tense, or emotional situations
- Problem-solving with ongoing accumulation of knowledge or expertise to deal with problems anticipated or encountered
- Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills with the ability to make informed decisions and take initiative with self-direction and follow through

In accordance with Section 16 Special Programs of the Canadian Human Rights Act, preference will be given to Aamjiwnaang Band Members with relevant education/experience (R.S.C 1985,H-6, s16 (1-3).Preference may be given to First Nation candidates with relevant on reserve employment and/or those with knowledge and understanding of Aamjiwnaang and history and community.
