Job description

Atlohsa Family Healing Services is seeking 2 motivated and dynamic individuals to fill the role of Community Capacity Builder. The Community Capacity Builders are the primary helpers for Atlohsa’s Giiwitaabiwag Cultural Safety Training Series and capacity building strategy within the Giwetashkad Strategic Plan. They will assist in providing education to a broad range of service providers working in London and region, including homelessness services, social services, school boards, and other community services, in order to build community capacity for more responsive, equitable and compassionate service with Indigenous peoples.

Role and Responsibility

The Community Capacity Builders will use Indigenous culture & land-based learning approaches to assist the Knowledge Exchange Coordinator with organizing and delivering training on Indigenous cultural safety, Indigenous homelessness, trauma-informed care, and Indigenous harm reduction, both virtually and in-person. The successful applicants will help to navigate complex group discussions about colonization, systemic racism, and power dynamics in social service delivery in a respectful and welcoming way while stimulating critical reflection. The Community Capacity Builders support an overall community education strategy that includes hosting regular cultural community events, arranging guest speakers, event logistics, writing, and drafting educational content for social media accounts.

Suitability

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences or equivalent college certificate preferred (Social Justice, Social Work/Social Service Worker, Indigenous Studies, Communications, Education or related field)
  • Must have a sound, solid, and grounded Indigenous or non-Indigenous identity, awareness of your own positionality, and a balanced level of personal wellness
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of languages, history, and cultures of the Indigenous population in the London region
  • Experience working with marginalized individuals in social/community programs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ease and confidence in presenting complex information in group settings
  • Ability to receive training support, supervision and direction, and take initiative to ask questions and clarify misunderstandings
  • Experience in curriculum development, group facilitation, event planning and coordination
  • Skills in conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation to build trust and resolve disagreements across different perspectives and ability to interact with others as defined in the Atlohsa Code of Conduct
  • Demonstrated strengths in interpersonal relations, creative collaboration, problem-solving, and community development
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize competing workload demands in fast paced environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

EMPLOYMENT TERM: Full-time contract position to March 31, 2024

REMUNERATION: $25.00/hour with full benefits package
