Job Description
The Museum of Ontario Archaeology (MOA), in partnership with the Ontario Archaeological Society (OAS), is seeking an enthusiastic Community Engagement Director to enhance public engagement, strengthen community relationships, and support the organizational growth of both institutions. This one-year, full-time position (with opportunity for renewal), administered by the MOA and based at 1600 Attawandaron Road in London, Ontario, will play a vital role in expanding the museum’s outreach efforts while also fulfilling key administrative functions for the OAS. The successful candidate will assist with developing and delivering public programs, managing digital engagement, coordinating community partnerships, and supporting the operational needs and mandates of both organizations.

Responsibilities
Accountable to the Executive Director of MOA and the President of the OAS, the Community Engagement Director will be responsible for advancing the museum’s and OAS’s shared mission of archaeological education, outreach, and advocacy. The successful candidate will be an employee of the MOA but regularly assigned to perform work on behalf of the OAS. The role therefore requires balancing both organizations’ priorities, ensuring seamless coordination of programs and initiatives that serve diverse audiences. Proficiency with digital office tools is required, including website management and social media, and the candidate must be capable of crafting specialized and nuanced communications tailored to all ages.

Key Responsibilities
Museum of Ontario Archaeology (MOA)

• Develop and support initiatives that create a welcoming and enriching visitor experience, including museum events and public programs.
• Participate in daily museum operations, including visitor services, tours, and other duties as needed.

Ontario Archaeological Society (OAS)

• Support the Board of Directors and OAS Committees by managing communications and administrative duties including fiscal management and banking, responding to government policy and legislation, managing Society’s business files/charity compliance and ensuring Board operations comply with constitution and policies.
• Oversee membership administration including database management, membership renewals and inquiries, production of member awards and producing reports for the Board of Directors.
• Coordinate and communicate with local chapters.
• Manage the mailing of publications (paper/electronic) of the OAS.
• Represent the OAS heritage events and conferences
• Assist with OAS awards, OAS annual conference and other duties as needed.

Both MOA & OAS

• Assist with the development and implementation of educational and community engagement programs and outreach events.
• Manage communications, including newsletters, mailing lists, website updates, social media posts, and general inquiries.
• Identify and pursue fundraising and sponsorship opportunities to support MOA/OAS initiatives, support fundraising and grant writing efforts and manage grant administration for MOA/OAS projects.
• Build and maintain community partnerships with educational, arts, culture, heritage, and environmental organizations, as well as Descendant communities and other relevant groups.
• Assist in advocacy initiatives related to archaeology, heritage policy, and Indigenous relations.
• Oversee the recruitment, training, and management of junior programming staff, internship placements, and volunteers.

Working Conditions

• Based at the Museum of Ontario Archaeology in London, ON, with occasional travel required.
• Some evening and weekend work will be required for events, community programs, and the OAS’s annual conference.
• Essential functions will require standing or sitting for extended periods, working with office equipment including computer screens, and moderate lifting of items up to 30 pounds (such as setting up meeting room chairs/tables).
• This position will involve working with young children, communicating effectively with adults, including those with other languages, and representing the MOA and the OAS to the public. It will involve working indoors and outdoors in a variety of seasonal conditions.
• Museum Staff agree to adhere to and stay up to date with all MOA health and safety requirements and policies.

About the Museum of Ontario Archaeology
The Museum of Ontario Archaeology (MOA) is located in the northwest corner of the City of London, the traditional territory of the Munsee-Delaware, Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee Peoples and their Ancestors who
have lived here from Time Immemorial. The MOA is a provincial non-profit and registered Canadian charity supporting the education and preservation of Ontario’s archaeological heritage, spanning the human occupation of the region from Time Immemorial and the recession of the Last Glacial Maximum to the industrial era.
