Full-Time Permanent (35 hours / week)
Location: London office | Requires travel within Elgin-St. Thomas and London-Middlesex regions
Compensation Structure: Based on the salary band for this role, external candidates can expect to be offered a starting salary in the range of $55,000 – $58,000 ($30 – $31 per hour). When determining the starting wage, we consider the market, candidate experience, as well as internal equity. Additionally, United Way also offers:

Position Description
The Community Impact Specialist (Advocacy) is United Way’s primary link to funded agencies, community partners and networks. The Community Impact Specialist (Advocacy) manages projects and activities that reduce and/or prevent poverty including grant funding, advocacy, government relations and public policy.
Our Ideal Candidate Will Possess
- University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in public policy, community development or related field
- Experience monitoring public policy and data trends, providing analysis, and relating results to organizational goals would be an asset
- Experience monitoring public policy and data trends, providing analysis and relating results to organizational goals
- Experience developing and delivering programs, services and strategies that address and/or prevent poverty and mental health
- Knowledge of the local social services sector and the strategies in place to address challenges
- Experience measuring and evaluating program outcomes
- Exceptional organizational skills; ability to manage competing priorities and carry projects to completion on time with minimum supervision
- Ability to effectively manage relationships with volunteers and partner organizations
- Proficient in MS Office and virtual meeting platforms
- Excellent teamwork, presentation, communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to work a flex work schedule in order to attend meetings and special events, which occur outside of regular office hours
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle with a minimum of $1,000,000 insurance coverage preferred
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage grants with agencies, programs and projects; monitor, evaluate and assess applications and outcomes reports
- Work with staff and volunteers to implement the funding review process
- Represent United Way’s interests at community planning tables and networks and participate in initiatives
- Execute public policy agenda; track advocacy and government relations activities
- Monitor municipal, provincial and federal public policy, provide analysis as needed
- Develop policy briefs and speaking notes to President and CEO
- Work with United Way colleagues and partners on local, provincial and federal advocacy activities
- Provide communication and support to funded agencies and partners
- Recruit, train and support Community Impact volunteers
- Ensure the participation of people with lived experience in the work of United Way and its partners
- Provide content about community impact work for use in public and donor communications
- Assist with the development of donor engagement activities, e.g., advocacy, impact experiences, speaker’s bureau and corporate volunteering
- Research, identify and coordinate opportunities for funding grants
- Complete administrative tasks related to duties
- Perform other duties as needed to ensure the safe and effective operations of the organization
