Job Description

Chippewa of the Thames First Nation is accepting applications for the position of:

Community Wellness Worker

Posting Date: October 26, 2023.

Summary:

The successful applicant will have the ability to perform numerous duties in a complex multidisciplinary team setting as it pertains to the health and wellness of the Chippewa of the Thames First Nation Community. The Community Wellness Worker is responsible for counseling individuals and for creating and running programming/groups as required. Holistic World View (Cultural Practices) will be employed into all levels of work.

Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited University.
• Registration (in good standing) with the College of Social Work and Social Service Workers in the province of Ontario;
• Certification in art and play therapies an asset;
• Working knowledge and proven experience of counseling techniques including: systems theory, relational therapy, bio-psycho-social model, existing theory on addiction and treatment;
• Two years’ work experience with Mental illness including categories as determined with the DSM-IV. psychodynamic theory and trauma counseling;
• Two years’ experience working with children using a variety of therapies and counseling;
• Trained to administer the Admission and Discharge Criteria for addictions assessment and referrals in the province of Ontario is an asset;
• Experience with client intake procedures, ongoing client charting, case histories and discharge planning;
• Valid driver’s license, driver’s abstract, ongoing client charting, case histories and discharge planning;
• Current First Aid/CPR certificate; WHMIS; Mental Health First Aid; Safety Talk; Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training; Cultural Diversity Training; Safe Food Handling; Privacy Training;
• Current immunization including 3 doses of the COVID-19 Vaccine.

*The successful candidate will be required to submit a clear Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check (Level 3) as a condition of employment.
