Job Description

Title: Consultation and Engagement Coordinator – Energy

Overview:

We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Consultation and Engagement Coordinator – Energy. In this role, you will be responsible for managing energy-related consultation requests, engaging with Hydro One staff on transmission line projects and supporting community-led initiatives related to energy planning and energy sovereignty.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Consultation Triage: Work with the consultation and monitoring coordinator to monitor and organize consultation requests, collaborate with manager to maximize TFG/CKSPFN participation in the Duty to Consult and Accommodate process on energy-related projects.
  • Hydro One Project Engagement Coordination: Lead day-to-day project engagement activities, coordinate, and support specific engagement activities related to each project and collaborate with Hydro One to support dissemination of project information to First Nation leadership, community members and Three Fires Group staff.
  • Regular Project Discussions with Community Leadership: Provide regular energy project updates to Chief and Council and senior administration, generate project recommendations at major project milestones, provide summaries and supplemental material for community leadership during key decision-making periods for energy projects.
  • Community Engagement: Plan and execute community engagement related to the Hydro One Transmission Line Projects and other energy projects in the area. Support other engagement events as needed.
  • Project/Research Advisement: Collaborate with the consultation and monitoring coordinator to support project and research workplans related to energy policy, planning and development in the territory, monitoring, data collection, community priorities (e.g., cumulative effects, species at risk, fish and fish habitat) and traditional use of land.
  • Lead Contracting and Employment Opportunities: Collaborate with Hydro One and other Three Fires Group staff to maximize contracting and employment opportunities on projects.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain a collaborative relationship with Hydro One to ensure timely flow of relevant information from both ends. Build relationships with industry partners to support contracting and employment opportunities related to the projects.
  • Facilitate Information and Knowledge Sharing: follow-op with Hydro One in support of information requests received from community leadership and members. Respond to Hydro One’s information requests and meet regularly (at least monthly) with Hydro One’s key contact person.
  • Meetings and Site visits: organize and participate in meetings with community representatives, attend field or worksite visits as agreed upon

Compensation:
• Contract, 2 years with potential to extend, $80,000-$88,000. Hybrid work environment.

Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications:
• Experience developing workplans, research plans, budgets and schedules.
• Experience leading research and/or project teams through workplans and budgets.
• Experience in Energy, Policy Development, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Experience in Indigenous procurement, contracting and employment.
• Experience liaising with industry proponents and the Duty to Consult and Accommodate process.
• Understanding of relevant Indigenous Knowledge, energy policy, energy generation and transmission, environmental regulations and best practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and draw meaningful conclusions.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
• Ability to access project sites with personal vehicle, including associated vehicular insurance.
• Willing to complete energy-focused training and development.
• Experience with GIS software and other relevant technology tools or a willingness to complete training.
