Coordinator of Operations
The Greater Essex County District School Board invites applications from qualified, team-oriented individuals for the non-bargaining, full-time position of Coordinator of Operations within the Facility Services Department.
Reporting to the Manager of Facility Services, and as an integral member of the Facility Services supervisory team, the Coordinator of Operations is responsible for coordinating activities of custodial staff, contractors and vendors who are engaged in the repair and maintenance of board grounds,
landscaping and playground equipment.
Nature & Scope of Position:
Maximize the student learning environment and staff work environment by providing the best service possible which includes:
- Managing the custodial operations of all GECDSB properties including 70 buildings and all related custodial equipment.
- Coordinating the Supervision of 5 or more Operations Supervisors who oversee permanent and casual custodians on multiple shifts.
- Administering the day to day operations of the CUPE 27 Collective Agreement including: hiring, training, coaching, discipline, grievances, and termination of staff in a unionized environment including participating in arbitrations, if required.
- Developing service quality goals and objectives for operations activities and ensure adherence to ISO9001 best practices and procedures.
- Establishing and implementing a yearly operations budget.
- Responsibility for overseeing service contracts in landscaping, grass cutting, snow removal, custodial supplies, grounds maintenance, playground equipment annual inspections, waste management, pest control and security guard services including participation in the tendering for
such contracts.
- Monitoring and managing the quality of operations work including school cleanliness, customer satisfaction and contractor performance.
- Working closely with the Maintenance, Capital Projects, Health and Safety, Energy and Environmental Departments.
- Demonstrate a commitment to and documented success in working to create a fair, inclusive, antiracist environment for all stakeholders, and to supporting diverse constituencies and populations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a post secondary diploma/degree in a related discipline.
- Minimum of five (5) years related supervisory experience in a unionized environment with operations activities.
- Experience working with budgets, financial systems, and preparing financial reports is considered an asset.
- Experience working with third party service vendors and contracts.
- Purchasing and tendering experience is considered an asset.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven Computer skills and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite of Products.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Working knowledge and experience of ISO9001 processes and certification and/or other Service Quality Programs.
- Strong customer service, organizational and leadership skills.
- Strong technical and analytical skills.
