Position: Council Committee Coordinator

Term: One-year contract, possibility of extension

Division: Political Office

Salary: $22.00 per hour

Hours: 35 hours per week

Monday–Friday, 8:30a.m.–4:30p.m.

Posting Date: January 26, 2024 Closing Date: February 8, 2024 at 4:30p.m.

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Council Committee Coordinator is responsible for acting as a liaison between the community, the council committees and Chief and Council. The individual will be responsible for the planning and coordination of the council committees including but not limited to the Youth Committee, Housing, Education, Environment, Health, Economic Development Commission, Public Safety and Special Events. This will include booking meetings, sending out invites, drafting agendas and putting together meeting materials.

Other duties will include writing meeting minutes, distributing them to committee members and following up on action items. Drafting of documents related to meetings may also be expected such as preparing briefing notes.

Due to the funding source for this position, the successful candidate must be a registered member of Oneida Nation of the Thames and must be in good standing with the Employment and Training Department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Post-Secondary Diploma in Office Administration or Legal Assistant or related field.
  2. 1-2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  3. Must have knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture and issues.
  4. Ability to distill large amounts of information in a concise manner that is easy to understand.
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including developing agendas and meeting minutes and briefing notes.
  6. Be able to accurately select pertinent statements and information from discussions at committee meetings to develop minutes and correspondence.
  7. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  8. Ability to take initiative and manage diverse subject matter.
  9. Exceptional organizational skills to keep track of all the meetings, minutes, and action items.
  10. Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  11. Must be a registered member of Oneida Nation of the Thames.
  12. Must be in good standing with Employment and Training.
