Job Description

Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC) is a diverse, dynamic, multiservice Indigenous health and wellness agency. We strive to provide quality, wholistic health services by sharing and promoting traditional and western health practices to enable people to live in a more balanced state of well-being. SOAHAC provides services to Indigenous people including those who live on and off reserve, status, non-status, Inuit, and Metis within the Southwest and Erie St Clair regions. SOAHAC has a mandate of ensuring that health services are accessible, of high quality, and are culturally appropriate. It is SOAHAC’s objective to build health care capacity within Indigenous communities. Currently, we are seeking the services of a COVID Screener to join our interdisciplinary staff team to work at our London site.

Reporting to the Integrated Care Manager, the COVID Screener is responsible for screening clients, visitors and staff for infectious diseases prior to entry to SOAHAC.

Responsibilities

  • Screen all individuals entering site entrance(s) for symptoms, signs and travel based on the provided screening guidelines
  • Redirect visitors and clients to assessment areas
  • Ensure all visitors entering SOAHAC follow proper precautionary measures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
  • Maintain and update basic client information in electronic medical software system
  • Ensure an accurate PPE count is submitted 1x week to Client Care Coordinator
  • Clean/disinfect exam rooms after each use
  • Order gowns from linen company once a week

Requirements

  • Completion of a high school diploma;
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Client centred individual with strong customer service skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with a variety of staff, visitors and clients;
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Physically capable of performing the duties of the position and tasks including bending, turning, lifting, walking and standing for long periods of time;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with strong conflict management skills;
  • Willingness to wear Personal Protective Equipment (mask, gloves, gown);
  • Able to speak a local indigenous language is an asset;
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to safety
  • Proven good attendance record with capabilities of maintaining this same standard;
  • Willingness to participate in Indigenous Cultural Safety Training, teachings and ceremonies;
  • Clean and current vulnerable sector police check as a condition of employment;
  • Access to reliable transportation;
  • Up to date immunization record including COVID-19 vaccinations

This job may require additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre.

This contract is approximately 4-months in length based on (35 hours/ 5 days per week). Salary is competitive.
