Chippewa of the Thames First Nation is accepting applications for the position of:

1 Position – DEVELOPMENTAL SUPPORT WORKER

Supervisor: Enji-Maajtaawaad Early Years Director
Start Date: Immediately
Salary: Full-time, Temp Contract $45,000 – $50,000 depending on experience/ credentials

SUMMARY OFPOSITION:

  • Under the supervision of the Early Years Director the DSW or RECE you will be responsible in
    providing one on one care to an autistic child who is under the age of six. The main priority is in providing support to ensure the child is integrated into the daily program and able to participate in all program activities to the best of their ability.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • DSW or ECE recognized college diploma
  • Current member of College of Early Childhood Education
  • Experience working with children aged 0-6yrs with autism would be considered an asset
  • Valid Ontario Drivers License
  • Current Standard First Aid with Infant & Child CPR: Level C
  • Must clear a Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Up to date Immunization Record
  • Must exemplify a healthy lifestyle

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of the autism spectrum and/or other behavioural/mental disorders
  • Knowledge of behavioural support plans
  • Experience de-escalation and crisis management
  • Experience in creating social stories, visual aids, sensory integration, and report writing
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Building positive working relationships with the child, family, community members, and other
    professionals involved in the care team
  • Encouraging and modeling acceptable social standards and setting appropriate boundaries
  • Engaging in frequent interaction with the child, using appropriate means of communication
  • Facilitating recreational/and or educational activities
  • Attending case conferences when required
  • Collaborating with the care team and providing input into assessments and Individual Specialized Plan (ISP)

*The successful candidate will be required to submit a clear Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check (Level 3) as a condition of employment.
