Energy and Environmental Officer – 14 month assignment

The Greater Essex County District School Board invites applications from qualified, team-oriented individuals for the non-bargaining, temporary full-time position of Energy and Environmental Officer within the Facility Services Department. The position is expected to begin January 27, 2025.

SALARY : $83,553.60 – $98,342.40

Nature & Scope of Position:
Reporting to the Manager of Facility Services, and, as an integral member of the Facility Services supervisory team, the Energy and Environmental Officer will assist with all facets of the Board’s energy management plan and ensure the Board complies with all duties and requirements of the Ontario Environmental Protection Act.:

  • Establish utility usage benchmarks and monitoring energy usage against reduction targets.
  • Negotiate and recommend contracts with utility suppliers.
  • Ensure compliance with the reporting requirements of the Energy Act, including publication of the Board’s energy and water consumption on an annual basis and development and publication of the Board’s 5-Year Energy Consumption and Demand Management Plan.
  • Conduct site visits and performing technical energy studies and audits to identify energy saving opportunities; apply for grants related to energy efficiency.
  • Prepare and deliver energy conservation training programs.
  • Develop and maintain, in conjunction with Senior Administration, the Board’s Climate Action Plan.
  • Implement and maintain the Board’s Environmental Management Programs including but not limited to; Hazardous Waste Information Network (HWIN) program, Lead in Drinking Water program, the Board’s Waste Minimization program including recycling.
  • Supervision of contract services for the operation and maintenance of Board owned sewage treatment plants, and lagoon system as well as Pelee Island water system.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to and documented success in working to create a fair, inclusive, antiracist environment for all stakeholders, and to supporting diverse constituencies and populations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Facility Services.

Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications:
Completion of a related diploma/degree.
Professional Designation of Certified Energy Manager (CEM) is desirable.
Minimum of three (3) years related work experience with energy and/or environmental fields.
Demonstrated computer and report writing skills.
Working knowledge of energy management and environmental legislation.
Must communicate well and work well in a team environment.
Valid Drivers License.
