Epidemiologist (1 full-time position)
The Middlesex-London Health Unit has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time Epidemiologist to work on the Population Health Assessment and Surveillance (PHAS) team in the Public Health Foundations division at the Citi Plaza location, London, Ontario.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Manager, Population Health Assessment and Surveillance, the Epidemiologist role provides leadership and expertise in the areas of population health assessment, surveillance, and reporting to facilitate evidence-informed practice and to support organizational planning and decision-making.
- Ensuring adherence to Ontario Public Health Standards by conducting population health assessments; collecting, analyzing, monitoring, interpreting and disseminating demographic and population health status data to support planning, assessment, and decision-making; tracking current information about morbidity, mortality, demography, health outcomes and risk factors of residents in Middlesex County and the City of London.
- Communicating with and guiding health unit frontline staff, team managers, senior leaders, and external partners about using population health assessment and research evidence to make decisions, as well as providing epidemiological, methodological, statistical, data, and analytical expertise.
- Analyzing and interpreting statistical data to monitor and identify results of health studies, populations at risk, and community environmental factors causing disease; preparing and disseminating health status reports.
- Leading or supporting health unit surveillance activities; providing epidemiological expertise and analytical support to outbreak and cluster investigations or other urgent or emerging situations.
- Proactively providing consultation and advice to ensure integration of population health assessment and research evidence supports for programmatic and strategic decision making.
- Evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of intervention or control strategies; and determining health status outcomes in order to ensure that established program standards are met.
- Interpreting and analyzing statistical data for public health managers and advising them of implications of the data for public health policy, and as it relates to the implementation of the Ontario Public Health Standards.
- Reviewing proposed research and evaluation projects with regards to methodology and analyses, and conducting research about priority populations and emerging health status trends when indicated.
- Responding to urgent and emerging requests as required.
- Conducting epidemiological investigations of non-communicable disease and communicable disease upon request of the Medical Officer of Health.
- Other duties as required.
The salary for this position ranges from $91,883.25 to $108,098.17 based on qualifications and experience.
