Job Description

The London Children’s Museum is looking for an Exhibits Coordinator to join our team! Working with the  Exhibits & Collections Manager, this individual will play a key role in helping to put together the finishing touches in our new location at 100 Kellogg Lane. The ideal candidate will take a creative approach in helping to select, purchase, make, and evaluate the right interactive components to bring the seven new exhibits to life. The Exhibits Coordinator will also support the staff team in maintaining exhibits by developing guiding frameworks and organizing documents. Our new team member will identify with and exemplify our organizational values which are: Stay Curious, Be Awesome, Be Helpful, Dream Big, Include Everyone, Listen Closely, and Have Fun.Position: Hourly, contract position for 37.5 hours per week from July 29, 2024 – February 28, 2025 (30 weeks total)Compensation: $18.05/hrKey Responsibilities:Monitor, maintain and stock exhibits within permanent galleriesLiaise with the facilities maintenance team to ensure exhibit components are functioning and galleries are kept clean and tidyAssist in making small repairs to exhibit elements at 21 Wharncliffe Rd locationResearch and lead prototyping of new exhibit consumables and interactive elements (ie. play furniture, building supplies, toys, etc.) for 100 Kellogg Lane locationCreate purchase lists of exhibit consumables for 100 Kellogg Lane locationAssist in the fabrication of exhibit interactive elements for 100 Kellogg Lane locationDevelop new Exhibit Set-Up Guidelines, Exhibit Storage, and Exhibit Evaluation documents for 100 Kellogg Lane location

Experience and Qualifications

Skills & Qualifications:Ability to prioritize and organize tasks, completing tasks within assigned timeframesExcellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skillsHigh attention to detailBasic computer skills in applications including G-Suite, Microsoft products, and the webAbility to engage in moderate physical activity on a daily basisExperience with exhibit fabrication or trades-based projects an assetSpecial skills in any form of “creation” an asset, including mediums such as fabric arts, painting and drawing, wood or metal working, robotics or electronics, etc.Education:Post-secondary education in Museum Studies, Public History, Arts and Culture, Design, or a related field.Position Requirements:Valid vulnerable sector screening (police check)Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible)*Legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number)*Between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment (July 29, 2024)*A college or university graduate (certificate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate)**This role is supported in part by the Government of Canada, through the Young Canada Works (YCW) granting program. Candidates must meet the position requirements to be eligible for this grant. Priority will be given to graduates that have not previously participated in YCW internship programs and that are unemployed or underemployed.
