Job Title: Finance Clerk- Repost

Department: Social Services

Pay Range: $26.04-$30.47 per hour

Status: Full-time, Permanent

Closing Date: November 11, 2025

Position:

The Finance Clerk will be responsible for fulfilling all accounting functions and responsibilities in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the Walpole Island First Nation philosophy, financial regulations, and mission statements.

Responsibilities: 

Under the supervision of the Child Wellbeing Manager the duties and responsibilities of the Finance Clerk include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Processing, verifying, and recording financial information; preparing and posting journal entries and reconciling accounts; maintaining the accounts payable, accounts receivable, Canadian Payroll and general ledger; preparing financial statements and other reports.
  • Set up, input and monitor an updated internal monthly expenditure tracking log and report for Social Services departments as required.
  • Ensuring finance activities are in accrdoance with the WIFN Financial Regulations, government regulations, adn generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Assist Social Service departments with financial activities as required.
  • To provide guidance and direction to casual laborers as required. May be required to provide some supervision in the absence of the Child Welling Manager or Team Leaders.
  • To see out training and education to upgrade skills needed to fulfil the changing requirements of Walpole Island First Nation.
  • Responsible for completing payroll, bank reconciliations, bank deposits, statements, petty cash, purchase orders and analyzing financial information for accuracy.
  • Preparing funding agency reports, and coding if required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of policies, procedures, regulations, by-laws, and agreements which could impact upon the financial responsibilities of the Walpole Island First Nation.
  • Assist with the yearly auditing process and ensure financial records and reports are Complete.
  • Prioritize and complete responsibilities in a timely manner to ensure financial reports are prepared as scheduled.
  • Assist with compiling budget data adn documents based on estimated revenues and expenses and previous  budgets.
  • Maintain a postiive working relationships with co-workers and other Walpole Island First Nation programs.services, and suppliers.
  • Assist community members by providing the necessary information or referring to the appropriate service/program.
  • Ensure confidentiality of employee and community member information is always maintained.
  • Assist the Child Wellbeing/Social Services Executive Administrative Asssitant and other Child Wellbeing Administrative staff with meetings and events preparations and their coverage duties as required.
  • Attend and participate in meetings outside the workplace as required.
  • Perform other realted duties as directed by the Child Wellbeing Manager or designate.

Working Conditions

  • This role works in a dynamic office setting and requires daily use of telephones and computers.
  • This role will work out of the Social Services or other designated locations, with some planned travel requirements. Will include extended periods of concentration and computer/desk setting.

Experience and Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Minimum grades 12 and one (1) year of post-secondary education or equivalent in accounting.
  • Preference will be given to hose with a Post-secondary Dipl. in Finance or Business Admin; with a major in accounting and/or enrolment in a designated accountant program.
  • Minimum of three (3) years progressive accounting experience, including month end and year-end reconciliiations and analysis.
  • Experience working with/for a First Nations community and a strong understanding of service gaps and barriers faced by Indigenous people.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and balance a diversified workload.
  • Ability to interpret By-laws, governmental regulations, contracts, and agreements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have excellent accounting knowledge.
  • Must be Computer literate and comprehensive knowledge of computerized accounting systems and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of AccPac systems preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and have dependeable transportation.
  • Will be subject to a Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Persons Check.
