Position Title: Finance Coordinator

Date: February 11, 2025

Salary: Negotiable based on experience

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week (9:00am to 4:30pm)

Reports To: Nation Manager

Position Summary:

Munsee-Delaware Nation (M-DN) is seeking a financial and administrative professional that reports directly to the Nation Manager and provides financial leadership and administrative direction to the operations and business affairs of the M-DN including: member programs and services, operations and administration, finance, human resources, communications, housing, education, and property management and all other programs. The position provides advice and support to the Nation Manager and is responsible for overseeing the effectiveness of the finances of the M-DN.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reporting directly to the Nation Manager, the Finance Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the M-DN’s Finance Department.
  • Completion of AP/AR,  journal entries, bank deposits, and payroll accurately and timely, Payroll functions including analyzing the remittances accounts and preparing for payment (EI, CPP, Income Tax, Pension, and Group Insurance) and posting to the general ledger.
  • Maintain records of all financial activities according to M-DN Financial Policies & Procedures.
  • Report on all financial activities of the Nation, as required by the Nation Manager including any monthly financial statements to be used by the Nation Manager, Program Managers, and Chief and Council, Respond to inquiries as per the direction of the Nation Manager.
  • Monitor budgets and prepare final reports under the direction of the Nation Manager.
  • Liaise with and support the Nation’s financial auditors as required.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the Nation Manager.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Timeliness and accuracy of financial reports (monthly, quarterly, annual reports).
  • Compliance with Indigenous governance, funding agreements, and financial regulations.
  • Effectiveness in identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising M-DN priorities.
  • Integration of financial strategies with community priorities and cultural values.
  • Effectiveness in mitigating financial risks and ensuring proper internal controls. Positive feedback from M-DN community leaders on financial transparency.

Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in Business, Administration, Finance, Accounting, or other related field.
  • A professional accounting designation through CPA and/or CAFM certification through AFOA, is not required but is considered an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of Sage 300 is considered an asset.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Previous work experience as a Finance Coordinator or Financial Analyst.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of First Nation organizations and their financial management systems and practices (e.g., reporting to Indigenous Service Canada, Health Canada, Ministry of Health Ontario, MCCSS/TPON, Indigenous PTOs, etc.).
  • Ability to promote courtesy, cooperation, and teamwork with all staff and develop good rapport with community as this position has a high public profile.

  • Proactive individual that exercises good judgement and is mindful of the impact of errors have on the organization. Represents and promotes M-DN’s interests in all aspects of their work.
