Job Description

POSITION: CO-ORDINATOR

 

PROGRAM: HEALING & WELLNESS
HOUR OF WORK: 9 am – 5 pm, 40 hours per week, includes 1 hour paid lunch

 

NUMBER OF DIRECT REPORTS:

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the delivery of programs and services that are cultural appropriate and addresses the prevention, aftercare and concurrent impacts of family violence on health and familia relationships. Liaison with other service providers and institutions such as treatment centres, women’s shelter, etc. Services are focused on women and children.

DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Responsible and accountable to the duty of care for each client and their children.
  2. Responsible and accountable to build relationship of trust with clients that protects, nurtures and ensure their well-being.
  3. Responsible to implement client files with case management practices.
  4. Ensure client intake forms, client action plans and referrals are completed.
  5. Responsible for the referral of services such as addiction treatment or other.
  6. Develop and facilitate community engagement events to increase education and awareness on the varying effects of family violence on the woman and child/ren .
  7. Coordinate guest speakers with lived experience for group peer counselling sessions (healing circles).
  8. Respond to requests or events involving the implementation of crisis intervention counselling and/or crisis intervention service (suicide or other).
  9. Coordinate the delivery of culturally appropriate activities and other to rebuild self-worth, cultural identity, confidence and well-being of the women and children.
  10. Provide referrals for counselling services beyond peer counselling in the best interest of the client.
  11. Ensure the referral of services and/or resources for child behavior management when needed or necessary.
  12. Responsible and accountable for the proper referral to third-party accredited services where appropriate, i.e. transitional housing, suicide, addiction treatment, etc.
  13. Coordinate with other internal programs such as Heathy Living – Kids and for annual programming such as Summer Camp
  14. Coordinate cultural and other programming activities such as Paint Night, Beading, Ribbon Skirt Making, Pow-Wow Dance Classes etc., that increases positive social and physical activities. Be creative in the various types of activities.
  15. Plan, coordinate and deliver outreach programs to create awareness on the program and services.
  16. Plan and develop activities that focus on improving health and wellbeing such as nutrition, healthy boundaries, self-care, etc.
  17. Provide referrals to indigenous youth treatment centres, land-based camps for youth, women’s shelters when necessary and agreed to by client.
  18. Other related duties as assigned

 

Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications:

  1. Social Worker Degree or related field
  2. Minimum of 3 years of related employment experience
  3. Female Applicants Only -As a Bona Fide Occupational Requirement
  4. Trauma-Informed Care training or willing to be trained

Requirements:

  1. VULNERABLE SECTOR SCREENING
  2. First Aid & CPR Certification
  3. Up-to-date immunization record

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Attributes:

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care approaches and ability to implement
  • Crisis Intervention Training and ability to implement
  • Case management skills and abilities
  • Skills and abilities in after-care services
  • Ability to develop, coordinate, facilitate group peer counselling such as healing circles
  • Strong knowledge of domestic violence and its impacts
  • Knowledge of traditional and cultural practices and resources networking
  • Skills and ability to develop power point presentations to facilitate group discussions or information sessions to community or other community engagement initiatives
  • Ability to coordinate delivery of various indigenous cultural programming on a monthly basis
  • Communication skills & abilities; both written and verbal
  • Computer skills & abilities with WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of social barriers and challenges faced by urban Indigenous people
  • Ability to maintain the confidence of client personal information
