The Middlesex-London Health Unit has an exciting opportunity for a full time Health Data Analyst to work on the Population Health Assessment and Surveillance (PHAS) team in the Public Health Foundations (PHF) division at the Citi Plaza location, London, Ontario, starting January 2025. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting to the Manager, Population Health Assessment and Surveillance, the incumbent will:Provide analytical support for population health assessments, including collecting and analyzing demographic and population health status data to support planning, assessment, and decision making, to ensure organizational adherence to Ontario Public Health Standards.Work closely with Epidemiologists to define data needs and select data sources, methods, and processes for collecting, querying, extracting, and/or analyzing public health data.Query and retrieve health information from specified public health data sources.Conduct data quality checks and organize, analyze, and interpret data using a variety of statistical, analytical, and mapping/visualization software packages.Present data and other statistical information in user specified and/or user-friendly formats including tables, charts, maps, and text.Respond to urgent and emerging requests as required.Assist in the identification of data, software, and database needs related to population health assessment and surveillance.Provide instructions and/or training to peers about data, data entry, analysis, and reporting, as required.Perform other duties as assigned.
4-year undergraduate degree in biostatistics, statistics, data science, health science, or other related degree.Candidates who have an equivalent level of expertise acquired through related employment experience and on-the-job training or alternative education may be considered in order to support Employment Equity.Experience working with a variety of data sources and analyzing quantitative data to support professionals within a public health or health environment.Ability to analyze, interpret, and summarize complex data using a variety of statistical, analytical, mapping and visualization software packages.Experience designing, executing, and managing analyses, including data quality checksAdvanced skills using Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams.Advanced skills in the use of statistical analysis software packages, e.g. R, StataExperience using data analysis and visualization software packages, e.g., Power BI.Experience in database development, management, and querying, and ability to perform complex data analysis accurately, effectively and efficiently.Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment while managing competing priorities.Ability to communicate, build professional relationships, and solve problems to effectively work with teammates, as well as other internal partners.Accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks, with a high level of tolerance for complexity and ambiguity.Knowledge of the principles of health equity, and why they are a foundational standard for public health.Experience conducting spatial analysis and the use of geographic information system (GIS) software is highly desirable.Experience querying and/or analyzing data from key public health data sources, e.g., BORN, CCHS, Census, DAD, iPHIS, etc., is highly desirable.Experience working with database programming languages, e.g., Python, SQL, is highly desirable.Ability to communication in French and/or any other languages is highly desirable.
