Chippewas of the Thames First Nation is accepting applicants for the position of:

Housing Intern

DEPARTMENT: Housing

REPORTS TO: Housing Director

Term: Contracted, 6 Month Term, 30 hours per week

Salary: $20.00/hr

Posting Date: July 22, 2024

SUMMARY:

Under the general administrative supervision of the Housing Director, the Housing Intern will work with the Housing Department to carry out administrative tasks as assigned. The tasks will include, but are not limited to, collections, tenant relations, housing & facilities database management, tenant database management, lease preparation (new and renewal), communications and entry-level financial responsibilities with regard to purchase orders, vendor relations, and invoice process for housing purchases.

SCOPE: The Housing Intern will assist the Housing Department staff with maintenance administration, tenant administration and financial administration.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work takes place mainly in the Housing Department Office but could include other places within COTTFN. It could involve dealing with tenants and other COTTFN staff from time to time. The incumbent is sometimes exposed to moderately undesirable working conditions in the form of unpleasant dealings with clients who are uncooperative or exhibit behavioral issues. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Work Hours: 30.0 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Flexibility to work evenings and weekends and be on-call, as needed.

Work Location: Chippewas of the Thames First Nation Administration Office, 320 Chippewa Road, Muncey, Ontario.

 

Experience and Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be between the ages of 15-30 at the start of employment per funding criteria
  • Be able to work in inclement weather conditions (hot, cold)
  • Provide a current CPIC within the last 6 months
  • Must be a Chippewa Band Member in accordance with the funding policy
  • Developed computer skills a requirement, knowledge of Microsoft office software an asset.
  • Must not be in receipt of Employment Insurance Benefits (EI) otherwise employed during the youth internship
  • Previous work experience that demonstrates proven abilities will be an asset.

SKILLS:

  • Highly motivated and able to work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Proving planning and follow-up skills.
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Office.
  • High level of critical and logical thinking and analysis to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
  • A strong understanding of First Nation issues and community practices.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, able to efficiently organize many details in a time efficient manner.
