Position Summary
The Indigenous Health Program (IHP) works to improve access to high quality, effective healthcare for Indigenous people and ensure that Indigenous knowledges, values and voices are present and respected. The IHP aims to utilize Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing to advance a strengths-based approach to health and wellness, reconciliation, and partnerships.
The IHP Educator will coordinate, plan, develop and deliver educational initiatives on behalf of the IHP, develop educational resources, assist with Michener Gitigan educational programming, contribute to developing Indigenous health training modules through the Learning Management System, support incoming educational and training requests to the IHP, and develop, implement and evaluate an Indigenous Cultural Safety Training strategy at UHN.

Duties
- facilitating/performing Indigenous health, Indigenous health equity, Indigenous cultural safety, and anti-racism and discrimination programming
- participating in skills and capacity building activities
- participating in research and evaluation activities
- providing consumer-oriented health information and resources
- participating in academic forums.
- Build, strengthen and sustain relationships with local Indigenous communities and organizations.
- Act as a resource for staff and program leaders regarding Indigenous health initiatives
Qualifications
- At minimum (3) years of relevant experience
- Experience required in health promotion, health education, adult education, or community development required.
- Experience building, nurturing and sustaining relationships with Indigenous communities, Leaders, Elders, Healers, Language Speakers and Knowledge Keepers required.
- Act as a resource for staff and program leaders regarding the needs of Indigenous patients, their families and communities
- Experience with Indigenous cultural safety training, anti-racist practice and trauma-informed care.
- Knowledge of Indigenous Nations, community engagement and cultural protocols required.
- Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards.
- Well-developed facilitation and/or teaching experience required
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, written, and public speaking abilities
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and independently
- Proficiency in a First Nations, Inuit or Metis language, verbal and/or written an asset
- Ability to have and use diplomacy and tact at all times
- Ability to work collaboratively with other program staff and community practitioners in order to provide activities, programs and services required.
- Strong decision-making, problem-solving and judgement skills, required.
- Experience in a program development and implementation, required.
