Position Title: Indigenous knowledge keeper Location: 13 Moons Land-Based Learning Camp Employment Type: Full-Time

Term: 2 years

Salary: $65000 Plus Benefits

Position Summary: The 13 Moons Land-Based Learning Camp is seeking a respected Elder and Knowledge Keeper to serve as a Spiritual Leader and support person for our camp community. The successful candidate will carry traditional knowledge, conduct sweat lodge ceremonies, and ensure the spiritual well-being of participants and staff through prayers and guidance. The Elder will have a strong understanding of Wampum Belt Treaties and be willing to share their knowledge with staff, youth, and participants.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Spiritual Leadership: Serve as a spiritual guide for camp participants and staff, providing support, prayers, and spiritual guidance.
  • Ceremony Conduction: Conduct sweat lodge ceremonies, pipe ceremonies, coming of age and other traditional spiritual practices. Ensure the safety and spiritual well-being of all participants during these ceremonies.
  • Traditional Knowledge: Share traditional knowledge and teachings with staff, youth, and Educate the camp community about cultural practices, stories, and the significance of Wampum Belt Treaties.
  • Community Engagement: Utilize a strong community network to engage with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and other community Foster a sense of community and cultural pride among participants.
  • Mentorship: Provide mentorship and guidance to staff, helping them integrate traditional knowledge and practices into camp activities. Support youth in their personal and spiritual development.
  • Cultural Preservation: Advocate for the preservation and promotion of Indigenous cultures and traditions within the Work collaboratively with other cultural leaders and staff to ensure cultural accuracy and respect.
  • Support Services: Offer emotional and spiritual support to participants and staff as needed. Be available for one-on-one consultations and guidance.

Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications:

 

  • Traditional Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of Indigenous spiritual practices, ceremonies, and cultural Experience in conducting sweat lodge and pipe ceremonies.
  • Community Network: Strong connections within the Indigenous community and a deep understanding of community dynamics and needs.
  • Wampum Belt Treaties: In-depth understanding of Wampum Belt Treaties and their significance. Ability to educate others about these treaties and their importance.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal Ability to engage with and inspire people of all ages.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience in spiritual guidance and cultural mentorship.
  • Respect and Integrity: A high level of respect for all individuals and a commitment to cultural integrity and authenticity.
