Salary: $45.56/hr

The Indigenous Patient Navigator will provide support and advocacy for Indigenous patients with cancer and their families.
The Navigator will work with regional hospitals, community partners and patients and families to address needs and
increase access to care. The Navigator provides culturally sensitive support and advocacy services for cancer patients
and their families by:
• Supporting Indigenous patients/families at clinic visits and helping them to navigate the cancer journey
• Enhancing communication between patients/families and staff/physicians
• Assisting with arrangements for language translation and transportation services
• Assisting in identifying and accessing internal and external resources
• Assisting patients in accessing traditional, spiritual and/ or cultural Indigenous services
The Navigator will develop a work plan pertaining to the goals and objectives of the program and will identify the priorities
related to patient and service needs within specific target areas.

Experience and Qualifications

1. University Degree in Health or Social Sciences field; or College Diploma with five (5) years work experience in the
Health and/or Social Work field
2. Experience working with and extensive knowledge of Indigenous language, culture, customs and traditions
3. Experience or knowledge of the health care system and community based resources
4. Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, patient teaching/counselling skills and experience working with
multicultural and diverse patient populations
5. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment.
6. Must have own transportation and be able and willing to travel
7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Program. Experience with hospital information systems (EPIC or MOSAIQ would be an
asset)
8. Work experience in cancer care would be preferred
9. Flexibility in working hours is required as dictated by the needs of patients and the program
