Summary of Duties:

The City of London is situated on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak and Attawandaron. We honour and respect the history, languages and culture of the diverse Indigenous people who call this territory home. The City of London is currently home to many First Nations, Métis and Inuit today. As representatives of the people of the City of London, we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and live in this territory.

Primary duties include supporting engagement, event coordination, research and data analysis related to the development of a Truth and Reconciliation Action Plan for the City of London.

Work Performed:

The City of London has a clear commitment to Reconciliation, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion in its 2023-2027 Strategic Plan. The includes taking meaningful actions that enhance the confidence of Indigenous Peoples by furthering truth and reconciliation efforts. A key mechanism for this to work with community members, leaders, youth, and Elders of the diverse Indigenous communities to develop and implement a City of London Truth and Reconciliation Action Plan.

The Indigenous Community Liaison intern would assist with the following, in support of the development of the City of London Truth and Reconciliation Action Plan:

  • Assist the Indigenous Community Liaison Advisor to coordinate events with community members, leaders, youth, and Elders of the diverse Indigenous communities related to the development of Truth and Reconciliation Action Plan.
  • Attend related engagement sessions with the Indigenous Community Liaison Advisor, assisting with hosting and note taking.
  • Assist with best practice research related to other municipal and public sector Truth and Reconciliation Action Plan.
  • Assist the Indigenous Community Liaison Advisor with data collection and analysis, identifying themes from engagement sessions, surveys, and other data collection methods.

Qualifications:

Eligibility under the City of London Internship Program as follows (see below):

MUST MEET CRITERIA AS EITHER A NEW IMMIGRANT, PERSON WITH A SELF-DECLARED DISABILITY, INDIGENOUS PERSON, RACIALIZED PERSON/VISIBLE MINORITY, OR A RECENT LOCAL POST-SECONDARY GRADUATE.

Indigenous Persons:

  • Person who identify as Aboriginal, First Nations, Metis, Inuit, and/or Indian.

OR

Recent local post-secondary graduate:

  • City of London residents currently residing or having left London within the last year ONLY and who have graduated from a recognized postsecondary institution.
  • Limited work experience in their chosen field

OR

Person with a self-declared disability which poses employment barriers:

  • Persons who identify as having one or more disabilities. City of London follows the definition of Disability as allowed under the Ontario Human Rights Code.

Racialized Persons/Visible Minorities:

  • Persons, other than Indigenous persons, who are non-Caucasian in race. Also persons who have racial meanings attributed to them as a group in ways that negatively impacts their work and social life.

OR

New immigrant:

  • Persons who have gained permanent residency status and/or naturalized citizenship status; having arrived in Canada 0 – 5 years.
  • Graduate of a recognized post-secondary education institute with Canadian equivalency
  • English benchmark level 6 or above
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada

Compensation & Other Information:

$21.78/hour

This posting is for one (1) temporary, full-time up to 15 weeks position.

Current hours of Work: Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid, in office and working from home.

These hours of work are subject to change in accordance to business requirements.
