Summary of Duties:

Under the Direction of the Manager, Corporate Records, the Intern will assist in various organization, classification, and inventory of the City’s archival records, including handling records and artifacts in varying physical conditions. The intern will gain archival management and records management experience regarding municipal archival records and artifacts.

Work Performed:

  • Sort and classify a vast array of different historical items and art pieces.
  • Update inventory of archival items and corporate art.
  • Create proper storage for archival items and corporate art.
  • Access condition of archival items and determine action plans for cleaning and maintaining damaged items.
  • Conduct research regarding ideal storage and preservation methods.
  • Assist in creating a mandate and acquisition policy for the corporate archives.
  • Assist in creating a needs report and business plan for establishing and running a corporate archive.

Qualifications:

  • Completion or working towards a degree or Diploma in Library Science, History, Art/Art History, or other relevant studies.

Eligibility under the City of London Internship Program as follows (see below):

MUST MEET CRITERIA AS EITHER A NEW IMMIGRANT, PERSON WITH A SELF-DECLARED DISABILITY, INDIGENOUS PERSON, RACIALIZED PERSON/VISIBLE MINORITY, OR A RECENT LOCAL POST-SECONDARY GRADUATE.

New immigrant:

  • Persons who have gained permanent residency status and/or naturalized citizenship status; having arrived in Canada 0 – 5 years.
  • Graduate of a recognized post-secondary education institute with Canadian equivalency
  • English benchmark level 6 or above
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada

OR

Indigenous Persons:

Experience:

  • Experience in archival conservation an asset

Compensation & Other Information:

$21.78/hour

This posting is for one (1) temporary, full-time up to 15 weeks position.

Current hours of Work: Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Work Arrangement: In office

These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.
