JORDAN’S PRINCIPLE NAVIGATOR

PROGRAM AREA: HEALTH SERVICES
POSITION TITLE: JORDAN’S PRINCIPLE NAVIGATOR
REPORTING PROTOCOL: REPORTS TO COMMUNITY HEALTH MANAGER/DESIGNATE

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Jordan’s Principle Navigator will assist with the implementation of service coordination for Kettle and Stony Point First Nations children on and off reserve. The JP Navigator will advocate and provide support to the clients and their families by assisting in individual and group applications through the ISC JP Program. The JP Navigator will be a knowledgeable resource and will assist clients with accessing health, education, justice, and social supports through Jordan’s Principle. Under direction, the Navigator will be providing liaison between external and internal service providers, advocacy and gathering of data with regard to unmet service gaps and trends.

EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
▪ Secondary school diploma
▪ Post-secondary education, preferably in Health-related education or Indigenous studies
▪ ASIST Certification
▪ CPIC – Vulnerable Sector Check must be provided prior to attending to site.
▪ Must possess a valid Class G License and must have reliable transportation and able to travel as needed.
▪ Current First Aid/CPR and AED training.

SKILLS REQUIRED:
▪ Passionate about assisting this community and all First Nations in achieving optimum health and well-being.
▪ Experience working with Indigenous people.
▪ Knowledge of First Nation customs and traditional values.
▪ Ability to work with clients and community in a sensitive, caring, and confidential manner.
▪ Strong professional ethics.
▪ Personable, team oriented, task focused and thorough in working with detail.
▪ Self-starter, efficient, reliable, and willing and able to assume responsibility with minimal supervision.
▪ Ability to take initiative and think creatively to problem solve while handling multiple responsibilities in a professional manner.
▪ Capable of developing strong working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, sub-contractors, and management.
▪ Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
▪ Proficient in Microsoft Office and its applications: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS Powerpoint, Outlook 365 etc.
▪ Knowledge of electronic medical records and/or other health information systems, an asset.
▪ Knowledge of the history, dynamics, and culture of this community and of First Nations as a whole.
▪ Knowledge and understanding of health services and program delivery.
▪ Experience working in a health services or administrative/clerical setting.
▪ Familiarity with third party benefit programs since the processing of Non-Insured Health benefits is an essential part of the program.
▪ Experience with organizational service delivery.
▪ Experience with and knowledge of health, social and education support service agencies and their deliverables.
