Job Title: Kizhaay Anishinaabe Niin Program Coordinator

Particulars: 32 Hours per week

Location: 2929 Howard Ave., Windsor, ON N8X 4W4

Job Purpose:

The Kizhaay Anishinaabe Niin program was developed to engage Indigenous men and youth in ending violence against Indigenous women. The program is comprised of two components: a provincial awareness campaign that provides public education and a community-based program delivered at 26 sites across Ontario. The program is dedicated to healing Indigenous men and youth through reclaiming and revitalizing their positive Indigenous identity and their responsibility to end violence against Indigenous women and girls.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide Indigenous culture based one-on-one counselling and group activities to support men and male youth who are committed to ending violence against Indigenous women and girls
  • Establish an environment in which men and youth-aged males examine their own behaviours and collectively contribute to ending violence against Indigenous women and girls
  • Provide Indigenous culture-based men’s programming that is designed and promotes healing, skill-building and the practice of alternative options or dispute resolution rather than the use of violence
  • Facilitation of programming within correctional institutions and the provision of reintegration support for men and youth-aged males involved within various stages of the criminal justice system.
  • Work with other Can-Am Indian Friendship Centre programs and staff to promote a coordinated approach to the Healing and Wellness Team
  • Promote the program via design and distribution of flyers, brochures and presentations to organization/agencies and at community events
  • Provide referrals to or service co-ordination of counseling, legal, and/or treatment services for individuals and families experiencing a crisis or traumatic event, including liaise with mainstream services to facilitate case management
  • Maintain an up-to-date and confidential client record keeping system and database.
  • Participate with program initiatives, and ensure reporting requirements are accurate, complete and submitted in a timely manner, by the program management policy
  • Perform other such duties as may be assigned from time to time i.e. newsletter submission, CAIFC events coordination and planning, attend staff meetings and able to travel as required.

 

Experience and Qualifications

Education:

  • Relevant Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in the area, such as Indigenous Studies, Social Service Work or a related field and/or relevant work experience

Experience/Job Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on family violence, child welfare and the impacts of trauma
  • Understanding of Indigenous male and youth engagement models of practice, community engagement methodology, event coordination and program facilitation approaches
  • Knowledge and experience working with justice system involved Indigenous men and male youth
  • Previous work experience within an Indigenous organization or community
  • Proficiency in the use of computers, word processing and data base software
  • Experience in case management, case conferencing and compiling statistics
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills, as well as presentation, human relations and communication skills
  • Able to work flexible schedule, including extended hours or weekends as required
  • Must have a valid Ontario Drivers’ License or access to an insured vehicle for client transportation and able to travel
