POSITION TITLE: LAND GUARDIAN
REPORTING PROTOCOL: REPORTS TO THE LANDS MANAGER OR DESIGNATE
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Kettle & Stony Point Lands Department is seeking a motivated and community-oriented individual to join our team as a Land Guardian for the 2025–2026 winter/spring term. The Land Guardian will take direction by the Lands staff to support environmental stewardship, cultural knowledge-sharing, and monitoring initiatives outlined in the Land Guardian Work Plan. This position focuses on building local capacity for land and water protection through field monitoring, community engagement, and the integration of Anishinaabe knowledge into stewardship practices. The ideal candidate will have a deep passion for the environment, cultural preservation, and creating meaningful change within the community. This individual will help guide the path for future Guardian programs, supporting the protection and care of Kettle & Stony Point’s lands and waters for generations to come.
EDUCATION / PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
▪ Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., environmental studies, cultural studies, business) or equivalent work experience in a relevant area.
▪ Experience in data collection, GPS mapping, or community outreach is considered an asset.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
▪ Demonstrated interest in land stewardship, environmental monitoring, and cultural knowledge.
▪ Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
▪ Strong communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
▪ Knowledge of local land and water systems within the Chippewas of Kettle & Stony Point First Nation is an advantage.
▪ Ability to organize, plan, and host community events.
▪ Understanding and appreciation for First Nation Culture, history, language and Community knowledge.
▪ Must possess a current and valid Driver’s License and dependable vehicle.
▪ Must possess a current CPIC.
