The University of Windsor (the University or UWindsor) is a globally relevant, regionally focused University that welcomes over 16,000 students in a range of comprehensive and research-intensive graduate and undergraduate programs. The University consists of eight academic faculties, which include Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Science; Human Kinetics; Education; Law; Engineering; Nursing; and Business. The UWindsor campus is home to a medical program offered by Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. The University employs a passionate, and dedicated faculty and staff, numbering approximately 2,500, of whom approximately 600 are tenured or tenure-track faculty.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President of Human Resources (AVPHR), the Manager Pension and Benefit Services is responsible for providing direction, oversight, governance and support in the delivery and administration of University of Windsor pension and benefit services for faculty and staff. The Manager is responsible for ensuring the University has access to a benefit plan which engages a lens of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. This position supports the University’s commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Decolonization related to policy, process, and programs in support of the University’s strategic priority to recruit and retain the best faculty and staff. The Manager is accountable to research, interpret, and act on complex pension and benefits legislation to mitigate risk and to ensure that the University is compliant with all regulations, policies, collective agreements, and legal regulations. Key stakeholders include the Academic and Administrative executive team, the Pension Committee of the Board of Governors, WUFA, WURA, the Financial Services department and other divisions, representative of the various bargaining units, and employees of the University of Windsor. Other key stakeholders are the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario, the Canada Revenue Agency, the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board, the Ministry of Family Services.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Commerce with a focus in Human Resources, or related field and/or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Five (5) years of progressive work experience with pension and benefits administration and strategy in consideration of relevant legislation and inclusive of the utilization of relevant HRIS, Pension and Benefit Administration Systems, and third-party Health Care Benefit Administration systems.
  • Completion of or actively progressing towards Pension Plan Administration Certification (PPAC). Proven leadership experience in delivering high quality HR services in rapidly changing environments, with a solid understanding of business fundamentals, consultative practices, and human resource best practices.
  • Strategic and critical thinking skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment, analyze and interpret data, and present information in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to handle matters requiring a high level of diplomacy, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation, collective agreements, employment contracts and other technical documents.
  • Strong problem-solving, time management and organizational skills with a process improvement mindset.
  • Possess the ability to influence positive work habits and relationships at all levels, and create a sense of momentum for others, cultivating a thriving atmosphere within a change-oriented workplace with a willingness to respect diverse perspectives.
  • Advanced computer software proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office 365 including Excel with the ability to manipulate spreadsheets and merge Word and Excel documents and download data from an HRIS to spreadsheet applications.
  • Demonstrated commitment for promoting and embedding Indigeneity, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in the delivery of pension and benefit programs and services.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with payroll services and systems.
  • Experience within a post-secondary education or complex unionized public-sector organization.
  • Completion of or actively progressing towards the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) Program.

FLEXIBLE WORK ARRANGEMENTS: This position requires the incumbent to work on-campus in Windsor, ON. An opportunity for some remote work may be approved within the Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA) guidelines at the University of Windsor.
