Position:              Maternal Child Health Worker                     

Term:                   Permanent Part-Time      

Department:       Community Health

Division:               Health Centre     

Salary:                 Competitive salary range

Hours:                  28 hours per week, Tuesday to Friday, 8:30a.m. to 4:30p.m., flexible to align work schedule with program requirements which will include some evenings and weekends

JOB SUMMARY:  

The Maternal Child Health Worker is responsible for developing and implementing maternal child health programs and services. The Maternal Child Health Worker provides case management and health promotion, health protection, and disease and injury prevention education for perinatal clients and families of children ages 0 to 6 years.

 

The goals of the maternal child health program are to increase parent knowledge of preventable diseases/illness and injuries; help parents identify healthy infant and child development; early intervention and referrals for child development; help families to develop connections with workers in the community; and support parent knowledge and resources.

 

The Maternal Child Health Worker contributes to developing and meeting objectives in the annual work plans for the Community Health team.

Experience and Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  1. A Diploma in Registered Practical Nursing (RPN).
  2. Current member, in good standing, as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Experience identifying and implementing effective nursing interventions for perinatal clients and infants.
  2. Experience identifying and implementing effective nursing interventions for children aged 1-6 years old is considered an asset.
  3. Demonstrated ability to assist and support breastfeeding women.
  4. Experience or training in case management.
  5. Experience in researching, planning, implementing, and evaluating health programs, services, and initiatives, or demonstrated willingness to learn.
  6. Experience with public speaking, group facilitation, or teaching.
  7. Experience developing health educational resources and communications materials or demonstrated willingness to learn.
  8. Evidence of ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage own workload with minimal supervision.
  9. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  10. Comfort and proficiency using technology and computers.
  11. Experience working with First Nations people is considered an asset.
