Position Title: Mental Health & Wellness Coordinator

Salary: Negotiable based on experience

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week (9:00am to 4:30pm)

Reports To: Nation Manager

Position Summary:

The Munsee-Delaware Nation Mental Health & Wellness Coordinator is responsible for the delivery of health promotion, prevention, secondary and tertiary services including trauma-informed care for people who may have experienced mental illness, trauma, family, cultural and/or community disconnection, involvement with criminal justice, physical health, and behavioral issues. This position assists the Nation Manager in the performance of statutory, operational, and supervisory duties related to Community Health & Wellness within the policies and procedures established by Munsee-Delaware Nation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee mental health and wellness programs and ensure culturally safe, trauma-informed, and client-centered services. Monitor program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  • Support complex client cases by providing oversight and intervention strategies. Ensure clients receive appropriate care, referrals, and follow-ups. Maintain confidentiality and compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Build relationships with community partners, healthcare providers, and cultural support networks. Advocate for mental health resources and services within the community. Develop and facilitate workshops, presentations, and training sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with mental health regulations, funding requirements, and organizational policies. Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation. Identify funding opportunities and support grant applications where needed.
  • Incorporate traditional healing, land-based practices, and cultural teachings into wellness initiatives. Work closely with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Indigenous community members.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Percentage of clients who follow through with recommended support services (attending scheduled sessions, participating in wellness programs).
  • Number of mental health and wellness initiatives successfully implemented (workshops, support groups, community outreach events).
  • Percentage of clients who report improved well-being and satisfaction with support services (measured through surveys and follow-ups).
  • Average response time for crisis intervention or urgent support requests.

Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Mental Health or College diplomas in Social Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker, or related discipline with 5 years of related experience working in the mental health sector. Registered Social Worker in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers or with a Regulated Health Professional Association or Group.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Good understanding of the issues of clients with complex needs related to psychiatric disabilities, and past trauma/victimization.
  • Must be knowledgeable of cultural and First Nation issues including those of M-DN people, Exceptional knowledge and experience working closely with First Nations governance and management systems.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communications skills, the ability to work within a team and the ability to organize time and work and have sound decision making capability.
  • Must have working knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, database usage, internet searching capabilities, and email.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and reliable vehicle required. Current First Aid and CPR certification required. CPIC and Vulnerable Sector Check within the past 3 months. Willing to take training as necessary to fulfill all duties.
  • Some after hours and weekend work, as neccessary.
