POSITION SUMMARY:
The Palliative Care Registered Nurse will play a pivotal role in enhancing palliative care services within the Kettle & Stony Point First Nation community. This position focuses on providing culturally sensitive care, developing educational programs, fostering partnerships with external agencies, and building internal capacity to support individuals and families during end-of-life journeys. The role includes creating policies, procedures, a community advisory committee, early identification and referral systems, and bereavement support, while also monitoring and evaluating the impact of the palliative care program. Palliative care education will be an integral part of the position and crucial in enhancing understanding and improving the overall experience of care for community members.

EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
▪ Bachelor of Nursing Science/ Baccalaureate in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing
▪ Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and will be required to join the Registered Nursing Association of Ontario if not already a member, and obtain coverage under the Legal Assistance Plan (LAP)
▪ Knowledge and understanding of palliative care, particularly experience working with this vulnerable population within a First Nation community
▪ Knowledge and understanding of health care issues and concerns as it relates to Indigenous disabled pediatric, adults and senior population
▪ Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is required
▪ Good clinical assessment skills
▪ Recent experience working in acute, community care or palliative care within the last 2 years
▪ Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives, build partnerships, and collaborate with diverse groups
▪ Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, integrated team
▪ Ability to prioritize workload and meet set timelines with demonstrated time management skills
▪ Ability to be creative, innovative, and flexible when approaching issues within an Indigenous (First Nation) health care setting
▪ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
▪ Proficiency in the use of the PS Suites EMR or equivalent EMR software would be an asset
▪ Good organization skills
▪ Teamwork – Works cooperatively and effectively with others. Participates actively in individual or group training activities.
▪ Time Management – organizes timelines; keeps schedules; be punctual.
▪ Knowledge of the history, dynamics, and culture of this community and of First Nations as a whole.
