Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Office Manager and Executive Assistant, Legal Services, but takes day-to-day direction from a Solicitor.  Provides a full range of paralegal, law clerk, and administrative services including, but not limited to, litigation, prosecutions, board and tribunal hearings, confidential labour relations matters, by-laws, real property and administrative law activities of the Corporation to the extent permitted by applicable Law Society Rules and Regulations.  Maintains confidentiality required at law and by the Law Society of Ontario.

Work Performed:

  • Compile and review evidence, prepare exhibits and other required documentation, and ensuring their accuracy and completeness.
  • Preparation of all manner of legal documentation, opinions, reports, etc.
  • Ensure all manner of files contain all required documentation, exhibits, etc. for use at trial/hearing.
  • Research and assist with the preparation of detail required for legal opinions, reports, court and tribunal proceedings, etc.
  • Review incoming correspondence for assigned solicitor(s) from both inside and outside the Corporation, providing responses or taking appropriate action, or prepare draft response or certain legal documents, or forward correspondence to appropriate solicitor for response.
  • Keep apprised of changes in legislation, Rules of Practice, court procedures, etc. which affect areas of law practised by the Legal Department, as well as corporate procedures and policies.
  • Identification and execution of appropriate procedure to follow and documentation to prepare (may involve research).
  • Develop and modify procedures to assist assigned solicitors in performance of duties and to increase efficiency.
  • Compiles statistics for use in reports.
  • Performs duties of and provides assistance to Office Manager and Executive Assistant, Legal Services.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum 4 – 5 years experience in a law office.
  • Keyboarding skills required (typing speed of 65 wpm).
  • P1 Licence with Law Society of Ontario (LSO) an asset.
  • Municipal Management Certificate (optional).
  • Knowledge of municipal government structure and function an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, interpersonal skills.
  • Initiative, ability to work with minimal supervision.


2 Year College Diploma in Paralegal or Law Clerk program.

Compensation & Other Information:

$58,044 to $75,458
