May include work at other campuses and sites including St. Thomas, Simcoe, Woodstock, Huron-Bruce sites.

Note: These are full-time permanent Faculty positions.

Duties:
Reporting to the Director, Counselling and Accessibility Services, the incumbent is responsible for providing personal counselling and psychotherapy services to Fanshawe College students with a focus on personal, mental health and addiction issues, and developing psychoeducational programming and materials from an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed perspective. Working from a client-centred and trauma-informed framework, the Personal Counsellor will also support students with appropriate referrals to College and community partners.

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology or a related discipline, including a supervised clinical internship
  • Professional registration required to practice psychotherapy in the province of Ontario with the College of Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO), or the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW)
  • Minimum 5 years’ recent and relevant experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered; preference will be given to applicants meeting the education requirements
  • Experience working with diverse populations including newcomers and international students is beneficial and strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with current research and professional literature pertaining to racial trauma and how it may impact a student’s experience, both emotionally and academically
  • Specific experience and professional training in working with diverse populations including international students
  • Demonstrated ability to support students in crisis, including assessment of risk, and making appropriate referrals is required
  • Knowledge of harm reduction models, education and prevention strategies, for individuals living with addictions and substance use problems is an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and strong interpersonal skills required
  • Strong commitment and demonstrated ability to working collaboratively as part of a team, and in accordance with all legal and ethical requirements

Approximate Start Date: November 27, 2023

Salary: Determination of starting salaries is based on relevant teaching/occupational experience and relevant formal qualifications, supported with original transcripts from granting institutions. The salary scale is $73,079 to $126,689 along with a comprehensive benefit package.

Partial load or full-time academic staff presently employed with the College will be given first consideration in accordance with the Academic Collective Agreement.

While transcripts are not required for the interview, they are mandatory prior to any offer of employment.
