Successful candidates will be required to perform work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus, as required. A full-time Professor at Fanshawe College is responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective learning environment for students. The successful candidate will teach courses in the Horticulture Technician Program, the Horticulture Apprenticeship program, and/or the Landscape Design Program in the School of Design. There is possibility of teaching in other programs. These programs relate to ornamental horticulture and greenhouse production.Approximate Start Date: August 12, 2024 Salary: Determination of starting salaries is based on relevant teaching/occupational experience and relevant formal qualifications, supported with original transcripts from granting institutions. The salary scale is $73,079 to $126,689 along with a comprehensive benefit package.Partial load or full-time academic staff presently employed with the College will be given first consideration in accordance with the Academic Collective Agreement.While transcripts are not required for the interview, they are mandatory prior to any offer of employment.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS Combination of excellent leadership and teaching skills with a strong commitment to academic excellence and student successExcellent communicatorStrong interpersonal skillsAbility to relate effectively to a wide variety of learnersStrong technical/computer skills and familiarity with educational technologies are requiredTeaching experience with hybrid and/or online delivery requiredRelated industry work experience, previous college teaching experience, and knowledge of curriculum design and student evaluations are assets SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONSPost-secondary 2-year diploma in Horticulture, Landscape Design, BLA, or related fieldBachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field preferredCanadian Nursery Landscape Association (CNLA), Certified Landscape Horticulture Technician (CLHT), or Certified Landscape Design (CLD) preferredMinimum 5 years’ of industry experience related to ornamental horticulture and/or greenhouse productionAn equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered; preference will be given to applicants meeting the minimum or higher education requirementsMust have knowledge and experience with plant ID and plant science, and current industry standards in horticulture production or landscape construction including estimating and budgetsKnowledge of current health and safety regulations in Ontario, relating specifically to the landscape industry, is requiredKnowledge and experience with all types of motorized landscape equipment including maintenance routines, purchasing, and circle checksProficiency in computer systems such as any of MS Office, DynaSCAPE, AutoCAD, greenhouse control systems, LMN, Priva, and/or point of sale systemsFamiliarity with greenhouse and/or maintenance management along with retail experience is an assetExperience with landscape drawing and drafting, surveying, plant identification and landscape maintenance is an assetDemonstrated industry contacts and organizations in a range of horticulture employment fields
