The Middlesex-London Health Unit has exciting opportunities for two temporary full-time Public Health Nurses to work until December 2026 on the Healthy Babies Healthy Children’s Team in the Family and Community Health division at our Citi Plaza location, London, Ontario.

Under the direction of the Associate Manager, Healthy Babies Healthy Children, the incumbent will:

  • Deliver home visiting services as outlined in the Healthy Babies Healthy Children (HBHC) Program Protocol, 2018 and Guidance Document (2015 or as current)
  • Provide breastfeeding home visits and support to families, including those experiencing significant breastfeeding challenges, and following Baby-Friendly best practices
  • Conduct relevant screening and assessments with families
  • Provide evidence-based information and public health nursing interventions
  • Refer families to health, social service, and other community partners as needed
  • Work collaboratively with community agencies to ensure families receive the support and services needed, adhere to service coordination agreements with partner agencies, and provide service coordination for families as needed
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation as per agency policy, utilizing the Ministry ISCIS database and MLHU’s electronic client record
  • Participate in inter-team/interdisciplinary work within the Family and Community Health Division
  • Perform other duties as assigned

The hourly rate for this position ranges from  $39.57 to $51.89  based on qualifications and experience.

Experience and Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited nursing program (BScN)
  • Current certificate of competence from the Ontario College of Nurses (CNO)
  • Proficient technical skills in the areas of documentation, Microsoft Office, and database software
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s license and own transportation
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in critical thinking, problem-solving, and relationship-building
  • Ability to work autonomously in a variety of home and community settings
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in evidence-informed decision-making and in providing leadership
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and expertise in home visiting pregnant and postpartum individuals and/or families who are at risk and/or experiencing multiple challenges
  • Knowledge, skills and expertise in working with individuals and families, primarily in the areas of breastfeeding, growth and development, infant and parent mental health promotion, intimate partner violence, and positive parenting, and in providing trauma- and violence-informed care
  • Knowledge, skills, and expertise in engaging in a meaningful way, creating a safe and inclusive environment, and effectively working with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated understanding of health equity and experience in taking action to address health inequities
  • Demonstrated commitment to contributing to a positive workplace environment
  • Skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse population, has knowledge of health and social inequities
  • Education in NCAST Feeding & Teaching Scales, Baby-Friendly (BFI) practices and Partners in Parenting Education (PIPE) is considered an asset
  • Communication proficiency (written and verbal) in French and/or any other language is considered an asset
