Job Description

Position: Registered Early Childhood Educator (2 positions)
Term: One-year contract with potential to transition to permanent full-time
Department: Childcare Centre
Division: Life Long Learning
Salary: Competitive salary range
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, flexible to work three (3) rotating shifts between 7:30a.m. to 5:30p.m.

The Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) will play a key role in creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children within the Childcare Centre. The RECE will be responsible for planning and implementing age-appropriate programs and activities that foster learning and development, supporting the emotional, physical, and cognitive growth of each child.

Responsibilities include ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the classroom, toys, and learning materials, as well as assisting with mealtimes, rest periods, and transitions between activities. The RECE will manage behaviours, promote inclusive practices, and foster a positive and respectful atmosphere. Additionally, they are responsible for maintaining detailed and accurate documentation related to the children’s progress, incidents, and attendance, as well as collaborating with families to support each child’s development.

The RECE will ensure that children are supervised at all times and are actively engaged in learning experiences.

Experience and Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • Early Childhood Education Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institute and enrollment with the College of ECE; or
  • Registration in an Early Childhood Education Diploma program with an expected completion date within 2 years.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience in a childcare centre is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience working with First Nation children and/or families is considered an asset.

REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO STARTING EMPLOYMENT:

  • The successful candidate must submit a copy of applicable educational qualifications (certificates, diplomas, degrees, etc.).
