Atlohsa Family Healing Services is seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to fill the role of a Release from Custody Worker (RFC). The Release from Custody Worker will provide support to Indigenous adults (18+) who are being released from custody.

 

The RFC will work with participants to provide transitional case management to support community and cultural integration upon their release.

 

Role and Responsibility

Using a wholistic Indigenous-led approach the successful applicant will offer compassionate and assertive care and support to community members who are transitioning from custody and may be experiencing homelessness, social stigma, mental health imbalance, and substance use.

 

The RFC will engage with individuals during their period of incarceration, at Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre and Sarnia Jail, prior to their discharge back to the community. The RFC will meet in person with participants to build relationships with the goal of facilitating the development of a collaborative and participant-led reintegration plan. The RFC will provide support for participants in the community post-release, guided by the reintegration plan to include housing needs; income supports; mental wellness and addictions supports; crisis planning; healthcare; community and cultural needs; and any other relevant supports and requirements. The RFC will support compliance with the terms of probation or parole and attend probation and parole meetings.

 

NOTE: This position will require extensive travel to Sarnia, Ontario.

EMPLOYMENT TERM: Permanent; full-time
CLOSING DATE: June 14, 2024
REMUNERATION:

  • $60,000 to $65,000 per year

Experience and Qualifications

Suitability

 

  • University degree in Social Work or Criminology or related field.
  • At least 3 years relevant case management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working with people in the Criminal Justice System.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the languages, traditional ways, history and cultures of the Indigenous population in the Southwestern Ontario region.
  • Current knowledge of Indigenous community services and resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform risk and needs assessments.
  • Demonstrated ability to receive training support, supervision, and direction.
  • Demonstrated strengths in interpersonal relations, problem-solving, crisis intervention, group dynamics, community development and other innovative approaches.
  • Ability to contribute to a culturally safe space with an awareness of its impact on practice.
  • Skills in conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation (to build trust and resolve disagreements).
  • Excellent organizational and coordination skills and the ability to prioritize multiple competing workloads demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with others in a respectful manner as defined in the Atlohsa Code of Conduct.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License (and access to vehicle), First Aid/CPR, and Current Vulnerable Sector Check.
