Join our dynamic team this summer to embark on a vital new research project exploring First Nation businesses across Ontario. We are looking for a friendly and proactive Research Assistant who is passionate about connecting with communities and assisting with building a new First Nation Business database for Ontario. This remote position offers the flexibility to work from anywhere in Ontario, provided you have reliable phone and Internet service.

As a Research Assistant, you will engage with our 133 First Nation Economic Development Officers and First Nation business owners in Ontario. You will play a crucial role in gathering information that will shape a new First Nation business database for Ontario. This position is a fantastic opportunity for post-secondary students to apply their academic knowledge to real-world research, enhancing their skills and contributing to an innovative project.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Research/Member Support Specialist, this remote position is ideal for a post-secondary student who is interested in creating a First Nation business database in Ontario. The successful candidate will be responsible for reaching out to 133 First Nation and First Nation businesses across Ontario to compile data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research existing data and create a database of First Nation businesses in Ontario.
  • Conduct phone interviews and/or surveys with Economic Development Officers from the 133 First Nations in Ontario to confirm existing information and/or collect additional data on First Nation businesses.
  • Conduct phone interviews and/or surveys with First Nation businesses to collect and/or confirm information.
  • Maintain detailed records of communications and findings.
  • Analyze and organize data to produce clear and concise reports.
  • Collaborate with the team to discuss findings and contribute to research objectives.
  • Ensure data privacy and confidentiality standards are upheld throughout the research process.
  • Other duties and research projects as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution, preferably with a focus on economics, Indigenous studies, business, sociology, or a related field.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with a friendly and professional phone demeanor.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with First Nations communications in Ontario is highly desirable.
  • Excellent skills in Excel and Microsoft Office Software
  • Highly proficient in conducting Internet research.
  • Access to a reliable computer, phone and high-speed Internet connection for remote work.
