Job Advertisement – Full-Time Research Assistant

Sisco & Associates Consulting Services (SISCO) is seeking a passionate and qualified Research Assistant to support our work with Indigenous communities, organizations, and partners across Canada and Australia.

Position: Research Assistant
Term: Full-Time Permanent (3-month probationary period)
Compensation: $45,000 – $55,000 per year, commensurate with experience. This role also includes a comprehensive benefits package and performance-based bonus.
Supervisor: Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Location: This is a remote position in Canada

Summary:

Under the direction of the COO the Research Assistant’s role is to support Research Associates and Subcontractors in undertaking the research, analysis and writing to deliver quality products to SISCO clients.

Duties and Responsibilities: Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting research and analysis, including document reviews, interviews, focus groups, asset mapping and other primarily qualitative methods (including Indigenous, decolonizing and art-based
    methods);
  • Supporting writing and editing reports, planning documents, toolkits, policy review, analysis and development;
  • Organizing and coordinating meetings and community engagements;
  • Supporting engagements, presentation and event facilitation as required, including through presentation and material development, note-taking (on-site), scribing and briefing development; and
  • Providing research assistance and administration support services, including but not limited to notetaking and typing up of meeting briefings, data entry and tracking, etc.;
  • Any other miscellaneous tasks as required.

Please note, responsibilities for this role may change with project work and business needs.

Working Conditions: This remote position requires a private workspace with reliable internet and a laptop equipped with Microsoft Office. While some flexibility is available with prior approval, the Research Assistant must be consistently available during core business hours, Monday to Friday.

Physical Requirements and Psychological Demands
• Prolonged sitting in an office or meeting environment;
• Extended standing during site visits, meetings, or facilitation;
• May be required to travel; and
• May be required to drive a vehicle to perform duties.
• May be required to problem solve and speak publicly.
• The content of the work may be difficult to process psychologically and may be triggering for individuals who have experienced intergenerational trauma associated with settler-colonization.

Compensation and Benefits
• $45,000 – $55,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
• 30-35 hours of work per week during core hours, with flexibility offered with prior approval.
• Eligibility for annual performance-based bonus of 5% of salary after one year of service.
• Eligibility for the following after probationary period:

o RSP / TFSA Matching Program (company contributions of up to 5% of salary).
• Two (2) weeks of paid vacation annually plus up to ten (10) days of paid vacation during the winter holidays.

Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications
• Some post-secondary education in related field;
• Some experience and interest in conducting research;
• Ability to use word processing and excel;
• Excellent organizational skills;
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn and grow, as well as share your knowledge with the team;
• Ability to work independently, manage time and meet deadlines;
• Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, histories and settler-colonial context; and
• Experience working with First Nation communities in southwestern Ontario an asset.
