Position: Social and Cultural Support Worker

Term: Permanent Full-Time

Division: Life Long Learning/Standing Stone School

Salary: As per approved salary grid

Hours: 35 hours per week, 8:30a.m. – 4:00p.m., Monday – Friday

JOB SUMMARY:

Oneida Nation of the Thames is a First Nations Settlement located near the City of London, Ontario. Standing Stone School offers FDK through Grade 6 programming for approximately 190 students.

Reporting to the Principal of Standing Stone School, the Social and Cultural Support Worker will assist students and staff by delivering programs and interventions to individuals and groups of students experiencing social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. Key tasks will include direct service to individuals, small groups and families as well as providing input to the school improvement plan’s culture and wellness goals.

This position will work as part of a team ensuring all specialized supports are grounded in Oneida knowledge and culture. As a result, students will have access to holistic interventions, will exhibit improved mental and physical wellbeing and will employ culturally based coping strategies and responses to achieve academic success.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in the field of Social Work, Social Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker or related field.
  2. Experience counselling children and youth, preferred.
  3. Experience in an elementary school setting, preferred.
  4. Working knowledge of counselling models, methods, and resources available for children, adolescents and/or families.
  5. Knowledge of Oneida culture and traditions.

  1. The successful candidate must submit a recent (completed within a 6-months) Vulnerable Sector CPIC, at own expense.

  3. The successful candidate must submit other documentation deemed relevant.
