Position: Summer Camp Counselor (5 positions available)

Term: Summer Student 2024 (July 8-August 30, 2024)

Department: Community Centre – Recreation

Wage: $17.30 per hour

Hours: 35 hours/week, 8:30a.m. – 4:30p.m., Monday – Friday

Posting Date: May 6, 2024

Closing Date: May 24, 2024 at 4:30p.m.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Summer Camp Coordinator, the Summer Camp Counselors will receive guidance, leadership, planning and organizational skills throughout the work experience. Team building, interpersonal relationships, communication, and data collection will be part of the learning experience. The summer camp will provide children ages 5-11 the opportunity to engage in physical activities, arts and crafts, improve motor skills and promote creativity. The summer camp will help implement games and activities as well as provide leadership for their group for the summer camp.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must have a Social Insurance Number;
  2. Must be between the ages of 15 – 29;
  3. Must be a norma resident of Oneida Nation of the Thames;
  4. Must be an Oneida Nation of the Thames band member;
  5. Must have reliable transportation to and from work each day;
  6. Must have First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to take training; and
  7. Must commit to the full 8 weeks of employment/
  8. The successful candidate must submit proof of school registration for school year 2022-2023 and 2024-2025, prior to starting employment.
  9. Must have knowledge of physical literacy and
  10. Experience with children an asset
  11. Able to demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills
  12. Oneida Language is an asset

RESPONSIBILITIES/EXPECTATIONS

  1. Plan, create, implement, and perform activities for Summer Camp participants
  2. Maintain daily records of attendance, program activities, and any required reporting
  3. Maintain an inventory of program supplies
  4. Communicate with parents/caregivers of participants
  5. Work with other program partners or departments
  6. Provide a final written evaluation of the program
  7. Perform other related duties as assigned
