Job description

Atlohsa Family Healing Services is seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to fill the role of a Team Lead for the Wiigiwaaminaan Shelter – Giwetashkad Homelessness Division. The primary role of the Team Lead will be to provide leadership, direction and overall management of the site for people experiencing homelessness. The Team Lead will provide supervision to a team of Community Care Workers and work closely with Atlohsa management and community partners. The Team Lead will be responsible for implementation of program planning, including staff scheduling and day to day operations. The Team Lead will work one on one with Community Care Workers, providing guidance and mentorship on a frontline level, including from time to time working frontline with program participants and community members.

Role and Responsibility

Using a wholistic Indigenous-led approach to principles of Harm Reduction and Housing First, the successful applicant will offer compassionate and assertive care and support to community members who may be experiencing homelessness, social stigma, mental health imbalance and substance use. The Team Lead will be responsible for supporting frontline staff with team approaches regarding participants, utilizing experience to help assess the needs of participants and leading by example when addressing crisis situations. This may include providing lay counselling and proactively intervening when crisis or conflict arises; which may include aggressive or disruptive in the moment behavior due to substance use and or mental health challenges. The Team Lead will ensure frontline staff are fulfilling their outlined job duties and are abiding by Giwetashkad Program Guidelines and the policy and procedures of Atlohsa Family Healing Services. The Team Lead will work to ensure that Atlohsa Family Healing Services is a safe space for all community members accessing services and programming by referring community members to more appropriate locations if the need shall arise.

Suitability

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the languages, traditional ways, history and cultures of the Indigenous population in the London region
  • Current knowledge of Indigenous community services and resources
  • College or university education in social services is an asset but not necessary
  • Experience working with marginalized individuals
  • Demonstrated ability to receive training support, supervision and direction
  • Demonstrated strengths in interpersonal relations, problem-solving, crisis intervention, group dynamics, community development and other innovative approaches
  • Ability to contribute to a culturally safe space with an awareness of its impact on practice
  • Skills in conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation (to build trust and resolve disagreements)
  • Excellent organizational and coordination skills and the ability to prioritize multiple competing workloads demands in fast paced environment
  • Effective communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with others in a respectful manner as defined in the Atlohsa Code of Conduct
  • Current Vulnerable Sector check required

EMPLOYMENT TERM: Full-time contract position to November 30th, 2024

REMUNERATION: Competitive compensation and benefits package based on qualifications
