PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Wasa-Nabin Program is grounded in cultural traditions providing a sense of belonging for urban Indigenous youth ages of 13 – 18. The program provides individualized goals to enhance the youth’s
area of need; supporting social skills, educational supports, individuals with disabilities, violence prevention, justice supports, youth in care or at risk of being involved with the child welfare system, 2SLGBTQ+ supports, and positive nutrition and physical activity practices. The Wasa-Nabin Coordinator plays a key role in delivering culturally safe programming that empowers youth, encourages critical thinking, and supports positive decision-making.
Duties:
• Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual written reports as required.
• Assist in the development and monitoring of the program budget and service delivery.
• Manage program resources, supplies, and materials effectively.
• Maintain accurate program records, data, and statistics in compliance with reporting requirements.
• Maintain confidential client files on Integrated Database in accordance with organizational standards.
• Participate in community-based activities and events relevant to the program.
• Establish and maintain effective partnerships with community organizations and service providers.
• Develop and manage a referral and intake system for clients.
• Create program schedules in alignment with client action plans.
• Engage in outreach efforts to recruit participants, with a focus on the urban Indigenous community.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Section Manager.
• Willingness and flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
Qualifications:
• Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Work, or a related health/social services field; equivalent field experience may be considered.
• Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated experience working directly with youth.
• Strong understanding of the social, cultural, and recreational needs and interests of youth.
• Proven ability to work professionally, and collaboratively with youth, families, community members, and agency partners.
• In-depth knowledge of Indigenous culture, history, and current social contexts.
• Solid understanding of relevant legislation, including the Education Act and the Child, Youth and Family Services Act.
• Awareness of health, social, and economic influences impacting Indigenous people.
• Familiarity with Indigenous service organizations within the community and surrounding area.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, coordination and facilitation skills.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain certifications.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Access to a reliable vehicle and possess valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
