Indigenous Wellness Worker

Biigajiiskaan – London, Ontario

Compensation: $25.00 to $29.00 per hour

Atlohsa Family Healing Services is seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to join the Biigajiiskaan Healing Program as an Indigenous Wellness Worker. Reporting to the Biigajiiskaan Program Manager, the Indigenous Wellness Worker is responsible for case management for up to 15 lower acuity individuals, planning and facilitating group programming, and collaborating on events and wider community engagement programs.

Combining the very best of traditional healing medicine and knowledge with Western hospital-based healthcare and practices, Biigajiiskaan is an Indigenous-led mental wellness program grounded in a wholistic engagement approach to care. The program supports First Nations, Inuit, and Metis individuals who are experiencing severe, persistent mental health challenges and concurrent disorders.

Role and ResponsibilityThe Indigenous Wellness Worker will be responsible to:

  • Organize and facilitate groups for participants based on need, program requirements, and the outcomes of Wholistic Wellness Assessments.
  • Provide case management for a case load of respectively lower acuity individuals both in community and on-site.
  • Collaborate with Knowledge Keepers in running cultural programming in group settings.
  • Timely and thorough completion of required case notes on data management software to meet legislated requirements.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of participants as they access medical supports, traditional wellness supports, and wider community agencies.

EMPLOYMENT TERM: Permanent; full-time
CLOSING DATE: May 9, 2025
REMUNERATION: 

  • $25.00 to $29.00 per hour
  • Three (3) weeks vacation
  • 12 self-development days per year
  • 12 sick days per year
  • 100% employer provided benefits, including healthcare, dental, and vision

Experience and Qualifications

Suitability

  • Post-secondary education in Social Service Work or Mental Health and Addictions, or equivalent, with appropriate licensures/registration.
  • Experience in group facilitation for addictions and mental wellness.
  • Traditional First Nations, Inuit, or Metis crafting skills an asset.
  • Ability to pivot to meet emergent needs of participants as they arise.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills to work collaboratively as a team member and independently to meet the needs of participants and program requirements.
  • Experience in case management and using case management software.
  • Demonstrated strength in interpersonal relations, problem-solving, crisis prevention, group dynamics, and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Effective communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact with others in a respectful manner as defined in the Atlohsa Code of Conduct.
  • Valid Ontario G-Class driver’s license, with clean driving record required.
  • First Aid and CPR certificate.
  • A current Vulnerable Sector Check.
