EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Nimkee Nupigawagan Healing Centre

Full Time

Position: Chef

Hours of work: 3 day shift

Rate of Pay: $22-$24/hour

Summary:

We want to retain a chef who has at least two years experience and a desire to learn and grow in the culinary and nutrition industry. The nature of the job requires that the individual involved must be able and willing to work at odd hours (i.e. very early in the morning to prepare meals for the day, and late at night to clean-up after the day’s work). He/she/they make sure that the kitchen is well-organized at all times. Traditional Indigenous foods may be available and/or for future learning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Make sure that kitchen safety measures are met and that sanitation practices are carried out, according to standards set by Ministry guidelines
  • Create new methods and recipes in preparation of meals, alongside main Chef.
  • Make sure that meals are prepared and served to participants according to schedule.
  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining stock levels so as to place orders for supplies.
  • Create menus that tend to suit the nutritional needs of participants.
  • Attend and participate in staff and Impact Team meetings
  • Keep immediate supervisor informed of activities and any issues that may arise/reporting emergencies.
  • Participate in training, including cultural competence training and assume responsibility for same.
  • Assist in upholding and adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to The Code of Ethics of Nimkee Nupigawagan Healing Centre and any professional body
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a Culinary Certificate or diploma and at least two years experience in a kitchen environment, preferably in the restaurant industry. Food Handlers Certification is essential. Several training modules are offered to successful candidate. A Clear CPIC and Clear Driver’s Abstract preferred. Indigenous candidates will be offered priority.
