Job Description

Job Title: Child & Youth Worker

Department: Three Fires Ezhignowenmindwaa Women’s Shelter

Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour

Status: Full-Time, Fixed-Term

Closing Date: November 4, 2025

Responsibilities:

  • Orientation to the Shelter environment and counselling process.
  • Ongoing assessment of short and long term goals as identified in plan of care.
  • Weekly sessions, group sessions, family/mediation sessions as identified.
  • Monthly programming (life skills, recreation, outings, etc.)
  • Support as an advocate and liaison
  • Referrals to appropriate resources
  • Transportation when assessed as appropriate.
  • Documenting client activity; maintaining records and input of services data;.
  • Provides for a safe and orderly environment by enforcing shelter rules and guidelines; dealing with problems that come up in communal living; working with residents to supply immediate needs and handle emergencies as they arise
  • Contacts the Women’s Shelter Supervisor when emergencies arise

Other:

  • Assisting in the development of annual workplans and training plans
  • Attending to all mandatory meetings and trainings as required
  • Assisting and planning of menus, purchasing of groceries and supplies when required
  • Participating in special events related to Three Fires Women’s Shelter initiatives to encourage wellness and spirit
  • Assisting in general housekeeping and maintaining safety requirements of environment

 

Experience and Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Post-secondary graduate in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or relevant discipline, or a minimum of three years equivalent combination of work and volunteer experience in the provision of services regarding family violence and other relevant disciplines.
  • Shifts are on a 2-week rotating basis (9am – 5pm) & (2pm – 10pm)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters related to the department/program
  • Must have CPR/First Aid or be willing to obtain
  • Must be willing and available for any additional training as needed
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and reliable transportation
  • Subject to Driver’s Abstract, Criminal and Vulnerable Sectors Check BEFORE Job Training and every three years after.

Ability:

  • To plan and facilitate safe therapeutic counselling in a residential setting.
  • To plan and facilitate children’s groups as required
  • To provide child care when necessary
  • To communicate at a high oral and written level.
  • To work independently and without direct supervision
  • To competently operate office equipment, computers, photocopiers, etc.
  • To develp and maintain quality time mangement skills
  • To work flexible hours
