Position:                Classroom Assistant                          

Term:                     Permanent Full-Time         

Department:        Childcare Centre

Division:                 Life Long Learning

Salary:                    Competitive salary range

Hours:                    40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, flexible to work three (3) rotating shifts between 7:30a.m. to 5:30p.m.

JOB SUMMARY:  

The Classroom Assistant plays a critical role in fostering a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children within the Childcare Centre. Working alongside Registered Early Childhood Educators, the Classroom Assistant supports the holistic development and wellbeing of children by participating in planning, preparation, and execution of daily activities and yearly program plans. These plans are tailored to meet the diverse physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs of each child.

 

Responsibilities include ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the classroom, toys, and learning materials, as well as assisting with mealtimes, rest periods, and transitions between activities. The Classroom Assistant also provides support to educators by helping manage behaviours, promoting inclusive practices, and fostering a positive and respectful atmosphere. Additionally, they are responsible for maintaining detailed and accurate documentation related to the children’s progress, incidents, and attendance, as well as collaborating with families to support each child’s development.

 

The Classroom Assistant will ensure that children are supervised at all times and are actively engaged in learning experiences.

 

The Oneida Childcare Centre is dedicated to providing training opportunities and educational advancements.

Experience and Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  1. Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Early Childhood Education Diploma is considered an asset.
  3. Valid First Aid/CPR Certification.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Previous experience in a Childcare Centre is considered an asset.
  2. Previous experience working with First Nations children and/or families is considered an asset.
