Chippewas of the Thames First Nation is accepting applications for the position of:

Consultation Engagement Specialist

Department: Treaties, Lands and Environment

Reports to: Energy Sector Consultation Coordinator

Term: Definite term contract until September 23, 2026- possibility for permanent after contract completion. Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm. Evening work may be required for special events

Summary:

The Consultation Engagement Specialist plays a key role in the Consultation team within the Treaties, Lands, and Environment Department. This team is responsible for reviewing proposed projects to assess potential impacts on the Nation’s rights and to assert jurisdiction in the Treaty and Traditional Territory. The ideal candidate will thrive in an independent work environment while collaborating effectively within a team, managing multiple tasks simultaneously. The Consultation Engagement Specialist will assist Consultation Coordinators by responding to project notifications, organizing community engagements, and maintaining the project database. Training will be provided on the Community Knowledge Keeper database and other tools used by the department.

Please note that definite term contracts may end with 30 days’ notice. This position may be a permanent position at the end of contract.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Screen and review projects in accordance with the Wiindmaagewin Consultation Protocol.
• Attend meetings with project proponents, consultants, and government agencies.
• Plan community engagement sessions and prepare related materials.
• Assist with community interviews and other special initiatives.
• Update information in the project management database and other departmental tools.

Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High-school diploma (O.S.S.D.) or equivalent required. College diploma or university degree in a relevant field (e.g., communications, marketing, public administration, Indigenous studies) preferred.
  • Ability to independently travel to the workplace and engagement sessions within the Nation’s territory (on- and off-reserve).
  • Proficiency in general computer skills, MS Office, Adobe programs, and databases. Experience with database management or mapping software is an asset.
  • Strong multi-tasking ability and adeptness in meeting deadlines.
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strict confidentiality is required.
  • Knowledge of community, land-based knowledge, and/or experience working for a First Nation is an asset.
  • Experience organizing events and/or project management is desirable.
  • Communication and graphic design skills are an asset.
