Job Description

Position: Crisis Response Team Navigator

Date: February 2, 2026

Hours of Work: 2.5 days per week

Rate of Pay: $28.50/per hour

Nimkee Nupigawagan Healing Centre is seeking a compassionate and grounded Crisis Response Team Navigator to support individuals, families, and communities during times of crisis. This role is rooted in Indigenous values, trauma-informed care, and holistic healing approaches and self-determination through Indigenous governance and OCAP principles.

Key Responsibilities

Crisis Support & Navigation:

  • Provide immediate, compassionate support to individuals experiencing mental health, emotional, or situational crises
  • Assist clients in understanding and accessing appropriate services (mental health, medical, social, housing, legal, cultural, and traditional supports)
  • Participate as part of the Crisis Response Team in community-based and on-call responses, as required
  • Conduct needs assessments and support the development of short-term stabilization and safety plans

Coordination & Advocacy:

  • Act as a liaison between clients, families, service providers, Elders, and community partners
  • Advocate for client needs while respecting self-determination and informed choice
  • Supports referrals, follow-ups, and continuity of care during and after crisis intervention

Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Social Work, Community Services, Mental Health, Indigenous Studies, or a related field (or equivalent lived/community experience)
  • Experience working in crisis response, mental health, addictions, or community-based support
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed, client-centered, and culturally safe practices
  • Knowledge of Indigenous communities and the impacts of intergenerational trauma
  • Ability to remain calm and supportive in high-stress situations

Skills & Requirements:

  • Strong communication, listening, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to navigate systems and advocate effectively
  • Respect for confidentiality and ethical practice
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts as required
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within communities

Assets:

  • Indigenous ancestry and/or strong connection to Indigenous communities
  • Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture, teachings, and language
  • Training in ASIST, Mental Health First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, or similar
